Cast or forged pistons?

So the poo broke down last saturday.
Sending the cylinders to get new NiCaSil coating.

The poo pistons are insanely expensive

The cast Wiseco are half the price of the forged ones and only a third of the poo oem pistons (this is in sweden)

Any suggestions?

Also, are the cylinders exactly 85 mm in diameter (2005 polaris rmk 800) ?

I would (and have) spend the extra money for the Polaris pistons.
I know it's more expensive, but they are just better.

The Weisco's expand quite a bit more than OEMs and so they have to have a much greater piston to cylinder clearance.
This makes for longer warm up periods, more chance of piston slap, and more chance of a seize up.

If you're not racing, cast pistons will probably be more reliable and give more mileage between rebuilds. They have less expansion issues than forged pistons.

I dont race but i whip it quite hard from time to time, the 144 track doesnt give that much flotation so wot is pretty much essential a lot of the time (until i get stuck anyways :p ).

Long warm up times isnt really an issue since i let it warm up for quite some time due to the crank issues on the engine.

The forged ones has speciefied clearance on the box 4-6/1000" i'm told. I also got the suggestion to go with the bigger clearance just to be safe.

how cold is it where you ride??? forged piston expansion issues suck for 2 strokes, then if you factor in cold weather, look out for cold seizes even if you feel you let it warm up long enough.this is all just my opinion and exp. using forged and cast pistons.i will never run forged again in a 2 stroke.
note, im running a turbo w/ cheap spi coated pistons. they run me $100 pr. w/ rings. never had a failure......
