Carry quick drive belt? if so where are you doing this

I'm looking for ideas to see if and where you guys are carrying a quickdrive belt on your sled.

I do have the shorter burandt tunnel bag and it will fit in there but takes up useable space.

what are you doing?
 
In truck or trailer. Haven't had to replace one yet but overwhelming consensus I've gotten is to leave it in its box until you need it. It may be a pain to have a buddy ride back to the lot for it, but better then wrecking a $200 belt.
 
last year we carried one in a back pack with the tool to put it on, this year its going in the tunnel bag, havent had to use it but it would ruin a good day of riding with out
 
I was told by the dealer that when they fail it is not typically complete failure like a drive belt. You can normally slowly ride the sled back to the truck because some portion of the circumference is intact. Not really ride it but baby it home.

Maybe someone with QD belt failure experience can confirm or deny this myth.
 
I carried a spare after I shed a few teeth off the original one on my 2013. Two more seasons went by and I do not bother carrying one at all. Unless you ride a turbo or are super abusive on a sled I think it is a waste to carry a spare.


When mine went it lost 4 teeth, you would not have known if you didn't actually look at it. I rode it not even knowing. The other close call I witnessed was my buddys jackshaft bearing failing leaving a ton of slack in the QD belt. It was ratcheting like crazy, rode it out almost 20 miles.


My experience is that belts after the original 2013 batch are pretty bomb proof. I think I did 30-50 miles each to break on the last two. No problems and I am a pretty good sized guy who rides aggressively.


I think a fresh one every season or every 1500-2000 miles is the only maintenance needed.

If your lucky you can limp them out... I was lucky my first one only stripped 6 cogs out and I drove it about 4 miles back to the trailer. After seeing a few guys destroy there belts. I always keep a spare in my tunnel bag...
 
friend blew one to bits this weekend, rode out about 13 miles with no cogs, got home on went the TKI belt drive :face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-coo
 
I asked the main parts guy at our dealer if he thought it would be wise to carry one and he said he wouldn't bother carrying one, not very many failures.
I am curious what caused the failures in the ones mentioned in the thread.
 
Poor braking control is my guess on failures. Or aggressive throttle while trenching..

I have no intension to carry a spare.

I carry a used belt and install tools in my tunnel bag. In a lot of places out west you're screwed if you cant ride out under your own power. It's an easy decision to have one for me
