Carls revalve! Do it!

If you dont want to spend a bunch on shocks, get them revlaved by carls! First ride on my newly revalved shocks was night and day better. Only thing i might say is i might go back to the stock rts spring, im kinda on the edge for weight between the stock and their 230 spring. But the ski shocks were amazing and the big hits were way better, no jarring bottoming. They are as good if not better than the carls float evols i had on my pro. Very very happy!

Ive used Carls shock rebuilds for years. They are the best bang for the buck in shocks IMO. Im not part of the Huck & Chuck crew so for hill climbing, boon docking and pounding a little bit of trail to get to some good riding they are perfect for me. Ive went the expensive aftermarket shock routes and some worked excellent, some were worse than stock, but again for what their worth you can't beat Carls valving. Side note: they really helped a lot of people on the hill climb circuit, these shocks can be ran in the stock classes and they worked way better my stock ones. This summer, mine will be back over there.

What do they charge for there revalve minus the spring?
I think it kinda depends on what you want. But they quoted about $500 and it was about $400 when i picked them up. I bought the sled there so they gave me a little discount. They install fox internals in the WE bodies. Which is like $150 of the cost.

The trail ride in and out was super choppy and they soaked it up so nicely.

Agreed on the Carl's revalve. Way cheaper than new shocks and they really work well. I used to do the Fox Zero Pros on my sleds until the Walker Evans shocks on the Pros and now the Axys were available for revalving by Carl's. I am running a 230 lb. spring on my rear track shock and KMOD 37" A Arms. Everything works very well.

How much do you weigh? And how much preload are you running the 230 spring?

i would also be interested in knowing what spring length (no weight on it) you have the rear track shock set at.

Maybe also the length of the threads showing on the shock below the spring.

I weigh 220 so probably 235 with gear and pack. I don't know the preload setting without measuring it and I am not at home now. I didn't touch the preload collar from how it was set at Carl's so you can ask them too. I used the 250 lb. spring on my 13. The 230 lb. spring is a better option for me. I don't huck. It hurts too much at my age. The 230 is perfect for my riding style.

Shock Revalving Cost

The average cost to rebuild a shock including both parts and labor is about 125.00 dollars. The cost can vary though if you buy a spring, such as our 230lb RTS spring mentioned, which retails at 79.99. We change the valve stack, use a custom piston inside and have had great success with the overall package if you are interested.

Give me a call at 208-853-5550 and just ask for Daniel if you want to get your shocks revalved!

Front Ski shocks we set at 10-1/4". Front track shock we set at 8-5/16", and RTS is 10-5/8". These are the measurements we use on our setup when they leave Carl's, but you are always free to play with them per your riding style. This works for both reservoir and non reservoir shocks as well.

I was very pleased with my settings on the skid but I added about 4 turns on the front. That probably has to do with my riding weight. After doing that, it was about as close to perfect for me as I have ever had. Spending a lot of money on replacement shocks just doesn't make a lot of sense to me given how well the revalved from Carl's work.

This with the 230 spring?

The springs are all the same length, but have larger diameters as you go up in spring rate. So yes, it works with any of the springs, whether you go with the stock spring, our 230LB, or the 250LB spring from Polaris.

Wouldnt preload be affected differently with a higher rate spring

I sent my rear shocks off to be revalved by carls last friday. I got a call tuesday morning that they had already been revalved and were ready to be sent back to me. If they work 1/2 as good as they are quick at turnaround I'll be a happy rider. They should be back in the sled by tomorrow night and I'll be riding shortly after. I hope they work great.
