Rode the wife's 2014 Carls Cycle 660 for the second time. Got it for her for her college graduation last May. Rode it in mid May in Snowies and then again Saturday in Big Horns. Night and day in the snow as expected. This thing rocks. Snappy and very controllable. I didn't want to give it back to her after I was on it for 20-30 minutes. :becky: For those of you looking for a wife/backup sled, I recommend going Carls 660 if ya can find one. It will flat out spank a 600. She handles this thing pretty well. She has ridden a 2000 600 RMK since 2002 and learning the new chassis and riding style. Carls did a fabulous job on this motor. :clap2:

Sled is in Sheridan, WY and I am currently in Greeley, CO. I will look at set-up this weekend when at Cooke City. Not sure how long it took for the setup to be built, I purchased the sled from a previous owner that is from Boise, ID.

Carls 660

I have never owned but have ridden several 660s. Excellent motors, these sleds feel much lighter than a 800. I guess due to engine and not weight of sled.

How does the 660 compare to the 800?

Not really sure how to compare the 660 with my 800 due to track length (163). I haven't had the chance to compare with a 800 that has a 155 but I wouldn't think it isn't to far behind it. It seemed very light when I was playing in the snow and doing little jumps compared to my 800 163.

Re: 660

How does the 660 compare to the 800?
My wife has a 2013 Pro RMK with a Carl's 660 motor package, and clutching. The sled also has Kmod suspension front and rear, turning a Camoplast Challenger Extreme 2.5" x 155" track (considerably heavier then the stock 5.1). Upgraded the belt drive to a C3 unit with a 2.21:1 final drive ratio.
The challenger: 2013 M800 S/P Ltd with EXIT suspension front and rear, lightweight can, MDS weights and Team Tied. In a drag race in good snow, they are dead even - up to 8000', where the 800's torque has an advantage. The 660 gives up nothing to the CAT 800 HO on the hill, even with a shorter track, and the fun factor is off the charts. I would build another in a heartbeat - Carl's did their homework on this motor package (which pulls 62g belly buster weights, same as a Polaris 800 at the same elevation). The whole package feels lighter then the 800, and is an absolute blast to ride. Anyone considering this motor package will not be disappointed with the end result.

660 kit

I have the SLP 660 kit coming. I rode one that belonged to a friend of mine from Denver. The fun factor was off the scale. He was doing uphill drags against all kinds of sleds. Always first out of the hole, always held his own except for turbo sleds would run him down.
Because I'm a SLP dealer, my cost on a kit was a real difference from what I could buy from Carls. Not taking anything away from them as another friend has their 660 kit and it also awesome !!

What swayed me to the Carl's kit was the fact that the ECU is remapped (no piggyback controller, the fact that I didn't need to purchase a pipe set and controller, and the last, most important reason: They have been building them since the earth cooled, and I've never heard of any major issues. I don't know if SLP's kit makes more power, but it comes at an additional cost for the average consumer. Not knocking SLP's kit, as I've used their products in the past with good success. It would be interesting to line up both (and maybe throw in PAR's 660) to see how they compare...

I don't doubt that the Carls 660 runs very well...but I could never understand why somebody would buy a 600 and put the extra money into it, only to have it "run toe to toe" with an 800...Most people would agree there slightly lighter and have a different feel because of the smaller displacement, but I just don't see it.

Cool story bro. Keep moving along.
