Carlisle ultimax xs817 vs 060 arctic cat

in canada they want $208 for the 060 belt and i can get the xs817 for $103. if i have a problem with the xs belt as in not lasting long or not working as good im going to go to the 046 and screw it.

so far i put some time on with the xs817 and it seems to pull the same rpms as the 060. so shouldnt affect your clutching at all. just had to redo the deflection. i think the xs and 060 are softer compounds belts and will have better grip. some say the xs belts dont give no warning and just blow to shreds but the 060's can too.

I fragged my first XS817 about 15 miles from the truck running about 70 on the trail. Biggest piece was about the size of a dime. No kidding! I found pieces of it for a month everytime I opened my hood.

thanks for the info I have been getting 300 to 400 miles on the 060 but I also had one of those explode with no warning at 70 mph and it looked like someone shot a goose a thousand times with a 12 gauge. Im just hoping for the same or better performance for less money. like to keep this going and here some more opinions.

xs-817

Have 2 xs-817z and an 046.I was getting about the same life from both.I did have some substancial alignment issues.I exploded a cat belt and an xs-817.
I gathered up as many chunks as I could sent the xs back, and a few weeks later a BRAND NEW shiney belt showed up NO CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 817 is about 200 rpm lower than the 046.The only diff I found. They are wide and you will have to shim your secondary to accomidate the extra width.

Did you have to add or remove shims from behind the secondary? My sled is new to me and I changed my belt on the hill the other day for the first time and installed the 817. It squealed bad at idle. To eliminate the squeal I had to add far too much delfection. The top of the belt was 1/8" the secondary. I am suspecting the clutches are mis-aligned. When I look down at the primary, there is a gap between the belt and fixed sheave. I had a 060 belt as well and tried it. Same result.

been running the xs817's for a while,

Have yet to have one grenade, (I've grenaded 3 060's in 1/4 the amount of miles I've been running the carlisles)
Get about 2x the life of the 060
they cost less
They have a WARRANTY so when they start to fall apart, I pull them off, send them in with $10 & in 2 weeks I have a new belt. NO BS.

Cat belts suck in comparison in my opinion. The idea that when they sell me a POS belt & I just get to go pay another $150 or whatever for one is crap.
I had one belt blow in one day, if that happens with an xs... $10. I can live with that.

Just landed a stepup today with no forward momentum, but because I'm tarded I was on the gas, belt popped off the secondary & fell behind it.

Not the belts fault at all, but for $10 I'll have another new belt. Today was just another example of why I'm SO happy with these belts!!!

After scrubbing belt and sheaves with hot soapy water I installed my first XS817 belt and noticed it squealed like a stuck pig with the .090 shim. So I installed the .060 shim and thought there was to much deflection. Ended up machining my .090 to .075 and it seems perfect, barely a chirp@2200 rpm then when it settles to 1850 no chirp. So I babied the belt in looking for moose sheds then let her rip for an hour, hooked up pulled hard and was able to hold my hand on clutches. Ill keep you guys posted on my results.

Did the same last year, could not quite understand why it happened.I suspected "user error", and now I know...

It has happened to me 3 times on M sleds in 4 years, always the same thing. Dumb rider giving gas on an uphill hit when I should have let off a bit to land. I'd love to find a way to avoid it, but I think something else would break! (like my spider did on my 07 a couple years ago from the same thing)
