Carbon Fiber Rear Bumper / Polaris Warranty

My snow checked 2013 Pro RMK 163 will be my first Polaris. I opted for the 4 year warranty. If I replace the carbon fiber rear bumper with an after market aluminum bumper, will it void the warranty? If not, what are the better replacement brands? Also, will the 2013 tunnel need to be reinforced? I'm not much into jumping but I love the trees.

Thanks for your input!

All this talk about warranties being voided because of modifications to the sled is bull. Anyone hear of the magnuson-moss act. It's a federal law that says they cannot do a blanket void of your warranty because of a change that you made to the vehicle. It also says that they cannot void the warranty because you didn't run polaris parts or oil. Also if you have a failure of a given part, the burden of proof as to why it failed is on them. Look it up. So the answer is no they can not legally void your warranty because you changed the bumpers.

I suspect you are correct that these claim denials could be won in court. Do you want the expense and hassle of finding out? I prefer to air on the side of reasonable caution, and ride my sled instead of having it tied up in a court proceeding. In my life of experience with things of this nature, most dealers and companies who have been around a while will try to do the right thing as long as you the customer don’t make it too hard for them to do so. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yep. Also the companies have attornies on retainer to litigate warranty issues.

I have run my own bumper and tunnel reinforcements on both my 08 dragon and my 11 pro..neither the dealer or polaris has every said anything about it when doing warranty work on the sleds(nor have any of the peeps running my reinforcemnts said polaris had issues with theirs).......

What do you charge for one of those bumpers you got there?

depends how you want it, the complete setup(the black base that runs up to the bulkhead, the rear overlays and the bumper run from 300-up to 800 without powdercoat(just depends how strong/how fancy you want to get), I also can incorparate a second reinforcement kit that reinforces the tunnel to the bulkhead(a few have buckled theirs in this area) that can add up to another 200 to the price(this reinforcment can also be bought seperately from the back half and per side if wanted....weight wise, the rear kit as pictured added less then 10 pds(doesnt count any peices removed from the sled and not reused) including Pc,rivits and glue..the frt reinforcments add about a pd per side also....I can get any of it powder coated here..but the prices are way spendy, I can also build them quite a bit lighter
(thinner materials), and they will be plenty strong for just what is normally hauled on a tunnel(I use mine to drag as much as 60 gallons of fuel into my trapping cabin so mines built for abuse.......)

I fail to see why any dealer would void your warranty for a optional rear bumper change unless you had a tunnel brace and you got smacked in the rear and the tunnel brace added to the damage.

I know if you cut off your factory running boards and installed a set of after market boards air boards and you bent the tunnel your sled will be triple checked to see if the boards caused of added stress to cause the damage.

I recall reading some posts late last year and or early this year where non modified bent tunnels had some warranty issues but I think in general if you have a bent tunnel unless a major defect is found it is never covered under any warranty and then you would look to your insurance or it would be a out of pocket expense.

Has any one ever seen or heard of Poo covering any part of a bent tunnel? I think it comes back to the rider and or his insurance or the other guys insurance?

Ive seen 2 pro tunnels warrantied for buckling..both 11's, both buckled right at the rear skid mount..havent seen another since...(but I do see guys bend them here and there, both at the back and up frt. between the frt. skid bolts and the driveshaft..).

AK,

Has the 2013 been further reinforced in the tunnel aside from the more rigid running boards?

Same tunnel as far as I can tell except for where they removed the stock boards for the extruded boards.... the stock tunnel will hold up fine unless you haul stuff on the tunnel and bottom the skid hard, keep the weights down on the tunnels(and keep it all as close to the seat as you can)and keep the skid from bottoming hard and they hold up just fine...

I think it depends on the dealer. Mine basically told me they will stand behind the warranty for any mods done that they perform/install. If Polaris won't stand behind it, they will.

13's CF's are the same as 12 and 11, same part numbers. Yep, mine has been liberated, also, and not just because I wanted it gone. Lots of others, too. Cracked and splintered at the flap stop on mine. Got aluminum now. It's just a flickable marketing ploy, just like the holey flap...

I have the Holz on one of mine, and need to get a second one. Funny thing.....a few weeks ago when I went into the dealer to trade my '12 in on a '13 163, they had two left. Both were on the floor, and identical machines. He said "which one you want?" I told him I will take the one without the broken rear bumper. Thats right, brand new sled....busted rear bumper. The rear bumpers break easy if you hit them just right. I barely backed into the back of my wifes summit and snapped mine in half in the trailer.

What are you worried about exactly? What is going to fail that's covered on warranty that changing your rear bumper will affect? Your tunnel?

So how is your tunnel going to fail? Cause if you bend it from over loading or wheeling it over that's damage. So I'm not sure what will fail? Like if you change your bumper and you motor blows and they void your motor warranty I don't think polaris would be selling snowmobiles for long after people found out about that.

I asked my dealer what's up with warranty and he said they take pictures, send them to polaris and polaris says yes or no.

Polaris is coming out with a new heavy duty aluminum bumper as an excessory for next year, maybe try that. Looks good
