Canyon Creek FS looking for suggestions for money

This is my response back from Jon Vanderheyden(jvanderheyden@fs.fed.us). So how do we get this organized? I am in. We need some way to collect this money and show we are serious. Let's not let this opportunity pass. Who would be the person or organization that could collect the money and maybe help raise some money? If we could even raise a third of the money needed it would give them a huge incentive to put this project at the top of the list and show we are willing to put up money, not just b(tch about things.

"I have a Resource Advisory Committee proposal to repair Road 31 using Title II Funds from the Secure Rural Schools Act; The North Mount Baker Snoqualmie Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) determines priorities for project proposals such as this one. I will pass on your interest to them. The best help at this point is to help secure matching funds if possible (projects with other sources of funds typically get ranked higher) or work with organization to get letters to the RAC showing your support for the proposal.

As to $ contributions - small amounts could be done with a "donation"; For a project of this size ($200,000) we would be looking for more substantial partners ($5,000+) and that type of contribution is handled with a formal agreement and would go to the specific project in question."

I keep hearing similar rumors...there were tears of joy falling into my beer this weekend...seems a little late in the season to pull it off before winter but we will have to see.

So the offer still stands if we can find a way to donate and collect funds for this project. Is there any organization that can handle this?

Any updates or was this just a cruel joke?

NOT going to happen this year!! They need Federal Funding($250,000) and it will depend on who wins the Presidency! They are hoping to get it(The funding) by next summer,as they already have an engineering design figured out....just need the$$$$$$$$$$ !

I just sent the guy an e-mail. I'm probably a bit late to all of this, and my e-mail doesn't do much, but at least they will know from my e-mail that it's more than just a few people that want to see this road get repaired.

i can't believe that the club that does the grooming up there has not taken control of this issue. There was grant money that could have been secured by putting in a proposal on this (no one knows if it was indeed secured??).....and when i talked to Jon at the FS about it a few months ago he stated that they were looking for matching funds (read my post above). The club could organize an effort to collect this money.

It is hard to believe that there has not been action on this. Par for the course....everyone wants to spend endless hours discussing mods to their sled and what new sled to buy, but no effort put into issues like this or keeping riding areas open. Everyone thinks someone else is doing it....but they are not.

If you read some of the first post you will realize the club has offered to fix this road at no cost to the forest service. We have fixed this same road in the past in other spots that were alot worse than this! We have the equipment and expertise to do this.

As far as the road being fixed - Yes they did get the grant money thanks to some of our club members going to the meeting and lobbying in front of the panel along with the Forest service. The road will not be fixed until next year.

So do we need to raise some money for this or not? I would think this would be the most important snowmobile related issue in all of Washington state right now. And from the local clubs it's just crickets...

grant

Read more carefully! They did get the grant and the club has been involved from the beginning..........We DON'T need to rasie any money as of now.

There has been alot of behind the scenes action taken on the project. There are alot of people that take the time to get the road repaired.
Sitting on snowest bitching about the lack of action is BS. You don't know what you are taking about.
Shut the @uck up!

READ 6 posts above you! There will be NO money (Funding) this year...Period!
They hope to get it(The Money) next summer..they HAVE an engineering design already figured out.The reason the road got washed out was the culvert pipe was too small for the amount of run-off that they did not expect. They are going to put in a 60" culvert next year...so the road doesn't get washed out again.

Bwahahaha!

You've probably never even been up that road.:face-icon-small-win

Thanks Tar, Conrad, and everyone else who has actually done something to push the issue. I know there has been a lot of behind the scenes lobbying going on by my Whatcom brothers.
Sure miss Sippy hole...:face-icon-small-ton
Can't wait to tear some shat up in the woods....:bounce:
