Can you still go into canada and back into the us with just your birth cert?

A friend wants to go next weekend and has applied for a passport but has not got it yet.

Yep, do it all the time. I think that may change in August. Flit 8.0 or Week Day Warrior have the inside scoop over on the Spokane thread. Have a good one. EW

Ditto, also remember if it's a copy of the real document, it has to be a "certified copy" with a driver liscense from the state you reside.

Big

Semi trucks cannot use the nexus lane and that is what we are riding in...Plus we go accross at sumas to go to the racetrack in mission bc and there is usually no line in the semi truck lane there anyways..:)

from what I know, for a nexus pass you need to go through a screening process, and some interviews with US border patrol, you also need to have a certain number of people (no family relations) vouch for you, and I believe a clean criminal record, as well as go through an iris scanner, not from personal experience, but I know a few people who applied.

And yes I believe a birth certificate and a piece of photo id is vaild to cross into the US until 2009, flying however is a different matter I believe.

Yes to most of it above with the exception of needing other people to vouch for you. See below.....

NEXUS Eligibility and Fees

(03/17/2008)Individuals may qualify to participate in NEXUS if they are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada, residing in either country, or if they are a citizen of a country other than Canada or the United States who plans to temporarily reside lawfully in Canada or the United States for the term of their NEXUS membership and who pass criminal history and law enforcement checks.
However, individuals may not qualify if they:

Are inadmissible to the United States or Canada under applicable immigration laws;
Provide false or incomplete information on their application;
Have been convicted of a criminal offense in any country for which they have not received a pardon;
Have been found in violation of customs or immigration law;
Will not lawfully reside in either Canada or the United States for the term of their NEXUS membership; or
Fail to meet other requirements of the NEXUS program.
To participate, both the United States and Canada must approve an individual's application. Denial of an application by either country will keep an individual from participating in the NEXUS program.

NEXUS Fees

$50 US or $50 Canadian for a new or renewal application, which can be paid by check, credit card or money order.

$25 fee to replace NEXUS card that is damaged, lost, or stolen.

Nothing like hitting the border with a group of guys and they stare at the 3 hour back up and you complain because you had to wait 4 minutes to get through.... Then you're home and eating dinner and they haven't even made it over yet.

If you have a nexus card and are traveling with others in your vehicle that do not have them, you cannot use the nexus lane. You can't even drop them off and have them walk through at Peace Arch.

If you decide to bring a bussies sled with you over the border you cannot use the Nexus lane... All items with you must be owned by you. You cannot bring almost any type of food either.

If you screw anything up, you lose your card for life. If a relative of yours has a Nexus card, and they smuggle something accross the border and get caught...you lose your card as well.

Good times....

What if your not driving?

It's been about 6 years, but, I had a friend with me that had a DUI when we crossed at Sumas headed to a grass drag in Chiliwack, B.C. They made him pay $250.00 canadian on the spot or stay behind. Lucky for him they take VISA. Good Luck!

never heard about that.... Usually they let you in as long as it's not your vehicle that someone is driving for you.... DUI's in Canada are considered a felony... They don't like adding more felons to the population....

I paid $200 in febuary to have the canadians over look my DUI...felt a lot like a bribe but I got a receipt...only works once for 5 years after your conviction, then you can pay $500 to have it overlooked forever or wait 10 years and it's free.

It seemed odd to me at the time also. They wanted to search the trailer and made us go inside to see IDs. My 10 YO son was with us and I didn't have his birth cert, that's what started everything. A bunch of us went to pemberton in Feb. this year. We had no problem, but we made sure we had all of our paper work is order. Passports work great.
