can you rebuild 2009 M8 clutches

I'd really be surprised if that were the case. I don't think there's much difference in the clutches from the previous couple model years and haven't heard anyone mention not being able to rebuild those. Throw the BS flag on that one.

Cat does not sell primary clutch parts for the M8 or M1000. If you lose a roller or crack a spider you will have to replace the clutch. There are some aftermarket company's making parts but they are about as expensive as buying a new clutch.

If you want to send the clutch to Cutler's he can do some repair work for you but if you want to just order parts from Cat and work on it yourself it's not going to happen.

We can rebuild them. On an M8 it is around $150.00 for a new spider, new bushings, new lock nut, and collar. Parts are cleaned and balanced and returned to you looking brand new. PM me if I can help.

they are rebuildable if you know where to get the parts and have the special tools required to do the job. i think the lock nut is tightened to like 200+foot lbs, sounds like it would be cheaper and easier to send it to rs or just buy another one.

Look back a few years

One thing I have noticed about arctic cat is they will have the parts list for a sled. If you look at the break down list it will show a complete unit. But if you go back a few years they did sell the parts individually. Exactly the same parts but they want to sell the entire assembly.

Found this on a couple clutch parts, needed just the rollers for the spider. On the microfiche it showed the entire spider. Went back about 2-3 years and ordered just the parts I needed.

I haven't looked at the 09 stuff but could be the same deal.

Racinstation-
Are you sending the parts out to the customer or do they have to send the clutch you and are the clutch parts OEM Cat parts or replacements made by another Manufacturer?

Rebuild

I think that they stopped selling parts mainly because it like a TV's sometimes labor is more than new clutch. Yes Eric is right if we go to an 05 06 M7 you can order a spider and its basically the same clutch but the list price on the spider is 170.79 and if you add 1 hour shop time at 75-100 an hour you can almost put a new on on and its all new. I can sell you a new M8 clutch for about 350 witch is about 100 under list.

Your right if someone is going to have a dealer do the clutch maintenance then getting a new clutch might be the right route due to labor charges and such. But for the tight a$$es like myself I just want the spider. I can put it on. Just give me the part numbers.

Like I said if you do some looking around you can find the parts you need. Most of the time.

How you gyus make you spider last? I've changed my spider two times as it has broken after adjusting belt to sheave distance. I surely like set my distance as it seems to be way too big from AC.

So what are tight they should be and what # locktite?

You need to make sure you get all the old loctite out of the threads on both the spider and the fixed sheeve threads.

Use the red loctite. I think red 271. And what I have found is don't be bashful about using it. Put plenty on.

What I believe breaks the spider is if the loctite doesn't hold it tight. The torque of the motor will continue to tighten the spider until it pops as the aluminum spider climbs the threads on the shaft. So agian if it isn't locked down tight it will break over time.

yep... i tried blue 242 and marked the sheaves. i put like 2000 miles on and the marks moved roughly an inch apart. so it must have tightened up. this year i took it apart and checked things out. put it back together with red high temp/permanent strength. im positive it will hold just fine now. that green **** Cat uses... that is a real pain to take apart.

Thank you. I noticed the same: when glue breaks, the spider keeps tightening until it breaks. Noticed also if motor monts are broken, it will cause more heat in clutches. That will cause glue breaking up and finally spider is broken - again :D

I've tried to clean the threads but maybe I did not do it good enough. Do you wash/clean the parts somehow before assembly?

Need to get that red stuff too.

it's been awhile since i've made mention of this, but these clutches DO NOT like to come apart and live. so unless you are going to rebalance them like RS does, then don't take them apart to save yourself money - it will cost you more in the end, just a buy a new one. look on fleebay, i've seen the clutches or as little as $250 new.

Some aftermarket shop should make an adapter which makes possible to adjust belt to sheave distance without breaking clutch apart (or even removing it from sled). I think it would be possible by making similar system for primary as secondary already has? I mean some blocker and shims behind clutch bolt? It just requires longer clutch bolt. Should be easy and cheap to do :)
