Can I turbo my M1000 due too porting

I have a 08 M1000 that was case ported and had all other top end porting and head clipped done by Brent Linderman.
200+hp just is not enough anymore.

I am wanting to go too a race gas turbo, something I could run on pump gas or be able to turn up with race gas.

I had been told that I would have to start over with new cases and get different porting and my head redone.
Is there any truth too this?

Should I sell this motor or will it work for me?
Brent told me he could do it,but I want to be more hands on,on this project.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Dave

I've heard some of brents porting works with turbo applications. talk to brent and shain together and they will tell you what its capable of.

I would start over with a used engine, even if someone, like Brent, and he seems very capable, could, if you ever have a problem you'll be relpacing it with modded parts....sometimes they can take some time getting and be more expensive.

I also think that you might have some performance issues as the turbos out there have been tuned, in part, on a stock engine. Opening up the cases to flow more volume may have an adversed affect on a turbos throttle response?

The porting on your current cylinders I would bet is too much, again just flowing too much volume, but again, that's just what I'm thinking.

I'm sure that someone will set it straight....good question though, I'd like to know what the differences in porting are in a turbo vs NA. And why????lol Anyone?

this is a very good point that snowmanx makes. My opinon and what i have seen is if the port timimg is correct along with tubo sizing and fuel managment the boost loves the increase in case volume which in reality is excactly what porting does (all be it a slight increase). at this point it would also be beneficial to have a look at some of those neat turbo exhaust set ups . Tho it would be nice to do what snowmanx said and start fresh with stock stuff for quicker fixes later, i believe that if a ported motor is more volumetric efficient N/A...it will also be with boost and make more power. Try it whats the worst that could happen :boom: haha sorry ....bad joke.

Typically porting a N/A engine will increase the blow down timing by raising up the cylinder ports. You will loose a little bottom end and make up for it at a higher rpm.

Turbos do not like having the exhaust port open to long, I think it is because of the increased exhaust pressure in the pipe, not because you are blowing your boost out the exhaust. With a turbo you go the other way and lower the ports. This gets you better bottom end, a quicker spoolup and more topend.

Talk to Brent he has played with turbos and can tell you what to do.

I did talk to Brent this afternoon and he said he can do it.I do believe that after talking with him, I have also decided what turbo I am going to go with.

I tell you,the way he has this sled running right out of the box, has made me smile lots these past two winters.I highly recommend him to any Cat owner.

sooo.... what turbo? boondocker I am guessing if Brent is doing it:face-icon-small-win

not sure which other company he deals with, I know he knows the ovs guys and I know he has installed a twisted kit or 2. either one is a good choice in my opinion

No, right now I am leaning hard towards the Cutler kit.Brent has had some real good luck with them and I like their design and to be able to keep stock oil injection and their fresh air intake looks pretty cool,I bet it will work well.

right on, Brent knows his stuff for sure. I'm sure he will get it dialed spot on

Stage 2 or stage 3 kit?

Edit: Realized after I posted that that there is only a stage 3 for 1000's

Yes there is only a stage 3 kit,but can be turned down too run pump gas.
After talking to Brent this afternoon I have decided that this is the turbo for me.
Now the hard part, telling my wife that I am going for it.I just wish my Vette would get sold,no paper trail that way.:face-icon-small-win

You will love the Cutler Kit. I had a blast with mine on an M8 this year! Are you going to install it yourself? If so, let me know and I will give you some tips that I learned while installing mine.
