Can i run a different brand silencer with a slp single pipe?

Hey guys i got a 09 Dragon 800. I had Carls Cycle port both the cylinders and upper case, shave the head and modify the ECU. I am also getting high flow intake, Carls clutch kit and a Slp single exhaust. My question is i have a Jaws silencer that i used when it was stock, can i use that Jaws can (or another brand silencer like skinz super-Q) with this engine and SLP single setup? Slp says no, and Carls Cycle says that there setup has been proven and they have never used any other brand silencer with the SLP single. I was curious what your all your opinons were. If at all possible I would like to have more noise than what the SLP silencer will let out. What are your opinons?? THANKS

Keep in mind slp builds their pipes to go with their silencer for optimal performance. There are alot of people that switch things up with no problems. It may make more of a difference with the port work but im sure it can be done with some trial and hopefully no error. Or maybe slp just wants to sell another silencer.

slp

well i have a 08 m1000 with the slp single set up i asked the same thing i dont like slp can to quite and not much lighter then stock i ran a D&D big barker can on my sled stock i love the can so i asked slp and they said no must run slp can so i kinda said f-that and ive had my D&D can on for a while now and love it have not had any issues at all i would say run it

can

my sled pulls the same as my buddy’s m1000 with the same set but he is still running the slp can and no you say for sound have you played with the slp cans at all the slp is lighter then stock yes but still twice as heavy as other cans its the weight factor and my D&D can is not loud i don’t know were you live but up here in alaska loud cans are every were it doesn’t matter what you run no rules or laws to mess with the ridding

i had a ported 09 dragon 800 with head as work as well the head and porting were done by fastrax I ran the slp pipe and silencer to begin with then switched to the skinz super Q because it was lighter (only reason) and the performance was dang near identical as with the slp silencer only difference beeing that i fekt it was just a tad bit snappier on hte bottom so i say go for it

I was informed it has to do with back pressure some will flow more than others.Watch rpms if you run a slp can and switch to another brand and lose rpms I probable would not run it could be too restrictive. SLP told me not to run a efi pipe on my wifes 06 600 of course I didn't listen her sleds turns 8350 and just rips and the plugs look good.I wish dyno Jim would dyno different aftermarket parts to see what they do.I asked him to run one with ev valve plugged in and one with the valve capped off he suggested I leave them plugged in due to they may support a lean condition.Work sucks I should be out rideing.

Use the slp silencer like slp and carls says.
You might make it fit with a another silencer but if the motor is ported to the slp single and silencer the pipe pressure is adjusted to match with the kit from slp.
So if you change it i think nothing else will happend but you will feel power LOSS..and that you don`t want :)

Hope it helped

Apparently teachers don't red-mark for 3 line sentences in AK either..... Regardless of state/province/territory/etc... loud sleds do absolutely NO GOOD for our sport. Who gives a crap about weight or shape or whatever 'engineering' goes into making a louder silencer. If 3 pounds difference is your saving grace for weight reduction on your sled than you need to stand back and re-evaluate. As for all the advice on the OP sled setup, I agree that using the full SLP setup would produce the best results. If you have both cans, swap them out in the same snow conditions and get some results for each one. Once you start porting and all the other stuff you will notice which setup is better almost immediately. Had a buddy on a M1000 go through the same exact thing you are asking, and it came down using the original exhaust that was tested with his motor setup. Thing runs like a champ now.

BTW Had to steal that^^^ for the sig. Thx :face-icon-small-win

So why not just answer the original question and start another thread about loud cans? I personally ran the full SLP setup and also tried the SLP setup with MBRP can on my 08 M1000. No difference in performance between the 2 cans. Of course SLP will say that you have to run their can, wouldn't you!!!
