Can a sled fit in a Tacoma?

What was said was that the reliability gap is no longer there. It used to be there, it is gone. I am on my fifth Dodge since 2003, put over 100k miles on each one, worked them hard, never had any trouble. My '06 will turn 100k this weekend on the way to Moab. I am keeping this one as the new one I would normally be buying will get bad milage with the new emissions controls. I'll put another 2 years and 100k on this one then find another low mile '06. My buddies Tundra, working half as hard, has had twice the problems. I have considered a Tacoma but they don't get any better milage than my 1-ton, and don't have half the power or half the room. They just don't make any sense to me.
Blah blah blah.....my buddy this and my buddy that. I have been in the car buying and selling business basically my whole life. The differences are there, they are measurable and they are reflected in the MARKET values of used units. We appraise trucks of all makes everyday, day in and out with any mileage, in any condition.

If you truly think there's no difference, and that a Tacoma gets the same mileage as your 1-ton, you're only kidding yourself.

Yeah, you used car guys are the bomb. Never met one of you that could find your a$$ with both hands. BTW, I've been around it all my life too, my dad managed and owned dealerships for 30 years.

And a V6 4wd 4-door Tacoma will not get the 18-19mpg my 4 door long box 1-ton diesel gets, nor will it be able to keep up running in the mountains.

Good thing you are such and expert though:rolleyes:

duh its a deisel lets compare apples to apples and oranges and actually i have a 06 taco and my buddy has a 2001 dodge d and it costs us exactly the same to drive the exactly the same drive to work every day ha

Back on topic...

Ive seen a couple of great setups in the beds of compacts like the Tacoma.

I saw a Single Bull Dog brand sled deck that sat inside the bed of a tundra with a 6" box and a 159" rev on the back. It was up at Nesters market in Whistler last season. Sweet deck that allowed the sled to ride inside of the bed... I think it was a slide out setup.

I also saw a great setup that used some 10" engineered wood beams as spacers above the wheel wells with a 3/4" marine plywood deck that was secured to the bed of the truck with turnbuckles to rings in the bed. It was a pretty light setup that could be put in/out by one person... it had paddle grabbers, glides and a super clamp for holddown. He carried a 151" Edge in the back of his Ranger 6' bed. The bifold ramp stowed underneath and the sled sat inside of the bed rails. The whole thing was sprayed with Rhino lining. Looked sharp with the extra LED taillights in the rear.

Here was a single sled deck that I had bought a while back but changed my plans and sold it... it sat inside of a 6' bed compact truck with the gate closed and stowed the ramp underneath the deck. All aluminum and it could be loaded by 2 people easily carried a 155" RMK... made by skyhigh in BC. Notice the small size of it sitting in the middle of the 4 place Triton trailer.

for some reason i thought he was asking if a sled can fit in a tacoma not if he should buy a full size deisel or not:rolleyes: the answer is yes people do it all the time it might look funny but it works.

Yes I don't think mine gets 26 miles? I think the advertising on the wind shield must have been 26 kms per litre.
I think my millege could be better because I rented a van in Van with the same motor and ran all week for $38.00.I think mine gets about 20 miles per gallon right now. I get 500 kms per tank which is about $80.00 to fill.
We have been driving Toyota's problem free for many years. 86 x-cab 4 cylinder,90 x-cab V6, 90 4 runner and now the 07 Taco 4 door with 6 foot box.
The truck's great, just needs 4 feet between the wheel wells, pulls my old 24 foot 71 Scamper travel trailer like it's not even there.
We didn't want a diesel for a # of reasons. Daily driver ,wife driving etc.
I can't aford a new diesel or afford to maintain one , my in laws had to replace tires after one year! (scary ,if you go over 10 ply)!
I got to stop this bashing, maybe a year and a half?
Anyhow the Taco works for me and I don't care what some of you say. I think I'm putting some new 20" bling on it too, even though it doesn't need new rubber! So there. I might like the ruffer ride of 20's.
All kidding a side I rented a 1 ton ford with camper to go salmon fishing in Alaska and really liked it. Maybe some day?
Still may open my wheel wells and will post pics if I do.

Your dodge can't fit a sheet of plywood with the gate up.....so I guess you miss the "real truck" boat too  The best way to do it is with a sled bed; if he has the 5' box then he really has no choice.

Tacomas are some of the best, most problem-free pickups built....awesome off road, tough as nails, wicked resale value. Compare it to a POS Canyon, Ranger or Dakota and, well, there's no comparison. Not everyone wants a 1-ton just to go sledding....

What I ment is the box in toyota isn't 4' in width, meaning a sheet of 4'x8' wouldn't fit because of width, not length. Just because the tailgate is down doesn't mean it won't fit.

Fact is, almost ANY newer vehicle is going to need more repairs then older ones, because they aren't built nearly as well. My old 01 dodge 2500 diesel had 200k miles on it when I sold it, orignal tranny, not one engine problem. Sure it needed a trac bar, steering box, ball joints, but what truck that's working hard won't at 200k?

If Toyota trucks are so good why are they stoping the expansion into making full size trucks that were suppose to be on in about 2 years? Plain and simple, Toyota cannot compete with the big 3 in FULL size trucks.

Why not go to harbor freight and buy a 4x8 folding trailer for $300 or so. I had one of those, and it was awesome. You get your small truck for the week, and a tilt deck trailer for the weekend.

Because they don't want to spend big bucks intro'ing a new vehicle into a volatile market in times of economic downturn? Do you actually think it's because they "can't" build as good of a 3/4 or 1-ton as the domestics? Even if that were the case, they could just hire as many engineers as they wanted from any one of the big 3 right now....don't kid yourself.

By that logic, just because it's on an angle doesn't mean it won't fit. Doesn't really matter...we're talking about sleds.

Anyway's, here's my single deck. In a truck where it won't fit between the wells, the fabricator just builds an aluminum platform for it to sit on and raise it above the wheel wells. It would be pretty easy to build your own base out of wood tho....
