Can a sled fit in a Tacoma?

Right now I have an 89 Chev longbox for pulling my sled which gets 12 mpg. I was thinking of selling the truck and my car to buy an 05-08 Tacoma, but I'm not sure if my sled will fit.

Has anyone seen a Tacoma with a sled in it? Got any photos handy?

Can I get away with the short box and some tie downs?

Thanks for the help :beer;

it'll fit, the only thing that might give you greif is the distance between the wheel wells, your sled might sit lop-sided. but with the tail gate down and a couple straps she'll stay in there.

You just got to be determined enough to make it work with what you got or will have.

I wish I had taken some photos of a Tacoma with sled in the back. I'm thinking it was a short box, because the ski's fit and thats about it. The track was near dragging on the ground, and the tailgat was bent in a "U" shape, it was hilarious, but dangerous. I like the Tacoma, but unless it's a long box, I wouldnt use it to haul your sled.

I thought that was why you are supposed to lift the sled up to close the tailgate?

You mean the short 6' ish box and not the shorter 5' box that comes on some doublecabs, correct?

If yes, then yes it will fit with the only problem being distance between the wheel wells. If you're worried about that, lots of guys around here get a sled bed made that raises the sled up above the wells and has a ramp underneath....some are even longer than the box and plug into the reciever hitch

aw c'mon now guys, yall missing something very importand. if the sled is too long just mod it to a 136 while during transportation, then after u unload put the 195 back on!!

It was a disapointment for me when I loaded my 162 M8 into my 07 Tacomma. It was almost 4 inches to narrow between the wheel wells with skis on wide setting.
The truck is awesome, lots of power for pulling (6500 lbs) 245hp and 26 miles to the gallon. We've been using my buddies 4 door Chevy dually with a 454 , scary fueling up at the end of the day if it's only two of us that go.
Only three options I see are a trailer, build up the bed to match top of wheel wells, or go total OVER HAULIN and get wheel rims with different off set and cut the plastic truck box wheel well larger. Not sure what this would do to the handling etc. Maybe it'll fix the loose feel in the rear so they don't spin out as much. Get inline to buy the kit? I want one too!
Sleds seem to fit well in the new mid sized Dodges. Mine fits fine in my 4 door long box with the tail gate down but just won't sit flat.

Uhhhh, Veedy
Yer hurting my feeling trash talkin my little toy truck
I say it looks like a sled with a truck on the front
And by the way, Toyota bought me a new tailgate LOL

What year Tacoma do you want?
They aren't as cheap to buy as your 89 Chev.

Hmmmm. Sell your 89 Chev that's worth about maybe 5k, and buy a Tacoma that costs 10-20k to save on fuel mileage.

I'll bet it'll take you a LONG time to make up that $5-10k in cost difference.

a buddy of mine built him self a 1 place sled deck that sits down in the bed and the sled sits right above the wheels. Works great also he has it in a short box 03 tacoma. cost him a couple bills to build it but it was worth it. 2 guys can load the sled deck in the truck so yes it can be done lol.

I saw an Apex in the back of a Tacoma in Revy a couple of weekends ago. It was strapped at the front so it wouldn't fall out as the tailgate was sagged out to near the ground. So I guess you can do it but why would you want such a girly truck?

Ya, but then there's the whole driving a brand new truck instead of an 89 thing LOL
