Camoplast or avid problems?

Not sure if it is one or the other or both. I installed avid 3 pitch 7 tooth with a camo 2 1/4" 153 last year. There was a little wear on the anti-ratchet teeth, and I felt was just normal wear at the beginning of this season. Well a couple weeks ago I noticed a few clips had fallen off the track and after a quick look the drivers were showing a lot of wear on the area that rides on the nubs. Ended up not riding for other reasons last weekend and today got a couple bags of clips to replace any missing ones. Well after looking at things real good the drivers are trashed. Trying to figure why I noticed that a lot of the clip guides are either right at the front edge of the nubs or ahead of them. So with the side to side movement the track can have on the drivers I can see why that area on the drivers has @1/4" of material ground off except for a @3/16" wide spot on the outside of the driver which now is trashing the track nubs.:(
I plan on replacing the goofy clips and spinning the drivers around to hopefully finish the season out. Still not sure why the clips are pealing off.

So with what I can see, you have to make sure that there are no clip guides close to the front edge of the nubs(even on brand new tracks like this was) because I am sure that without the anti ratchet the ears on the drivers would have eventually been cut off.

Anyone else seen this as I can't believe that I have that much rotten luck.

avid

I'm running Avid drivers on a Challanger extreme and have not had any trouble, and I am also running 3.0'' pitch, but I did have trouble with Whal bros drivers on this track.

Sounds like the CNC'd drivers are indestructable, maybe try them next season.
Kinda glad you posted this, I was thinking about trying to save some money and get Avids molded drivers.....I'll probably ponie up for the CNC'd now.

I have torn 2 156 camo tracks and trashed a set of extrovert drivers.

Take a look at the front of your rails and see how bad the rail end caps are beat up. I dont think the drivers made the track clips come off, I think they are "throwing" the track up into the rails and taking the clips off. My drivers were worn as well,,,,,,,,and two tracks torn in half

Going back to stock drivers now that I have to replace driveshaft, drivers, bearings, track and some suspension parts:mad:

These are/was the cnc drivers.:(
I will look at the caps(sled's across town) but I set the rail/driver clearance to close to a 1/4" and can't imagine the track hitting there. That would stink with the work I just went trough today on it! Clipping a track SUCKS!!

Avid drivers

I ground off the end of the teeth so it doesn't pull track up into drivers and it made big differance.
Teeth are too steep.

my avids after 500 km and im running a 156 CE clipped every second window,

That is exactly what I have going on, only the grooves are 1/4"+ deep.
Take a look and see if you have any clip guides that are ahead or even with your nubs. My guess is you have at least one that is.

CNC'd drivers are made of plastic???
I thought they were made of aluminum or something??

The cnc'd drivers are .25" smaller which makes them more like a 2.89 pitch...I wonder if that is part of the problem???

I did some math and found the 7 tooth moldeds are only .68" smaller than the 8 tooth cnc'd.

Avids are the best out there ski doo's following. I have 1000 miles on my avids and they look new. I had asked the guy who ownes avid about them when I order them and he said he as not replaced a set where they were faulty on his part. Same way with the avid 9" bigwheel kit. Good stuff have both on my 166"

im sure there great for most sleds but when i was buying mine a few shops wouldnt sell me avids if i was over 200 hp and im well over that . has any one else heard of this ?

My issue was definitely that some clips had been installed toward the front of the bars. The ears were running on the edge of the clip guides. I am not sure if any type of driver would be able to take that for long. Also the track was a pace2 style and I would say that a fully clipped style would also be friendlier on the anti ratchets. So what I have learned is that I will only run fully clipped tracks on anti ratchets and will look at every clip to make sure they are centered correctly on the bars.

As far as the clips peeling off, I can't see anywhere that any trauma or such has occurred to my caps, rails, wheels etc. I can only assume that the off centered clips did not have enough of a bite on the back of the bars and the drivers were prying them off.

Approx 1500 miles on these Avid 7t 3" pitch drivers

turning a 2.5 162. Great shape still.

Track clips

The track clip where it contacts the driver are no where near wide enough to cause the damage shown.

Are you talking about rednytro's pic? Because if you are, I am here to say that the clip can do this. This is what mine looked like only the groove was over an 1/4" deep. It is true that the clip is only @1/16" wide, however the track travels side to side on the drivers which allows it to grind the area out like that. I am thinking that maybe the 4 driver set-up might be the best. If it can handle the 1200wc power, I'll be sold on it.

Most turbos I know of are running cnc'd avids. 300+hp for 2 seasons and no problems.
If your knocking clips off, I'd say the rail tips are doing it. Also make sure the drivers are centered in the track windows and the drive axle is square to the tunnel.

If you are running on hard pack and getting the slides hot, I have seen the clips stick to the slides when you stop and then they get pulled off when you take off again. and with 200+ hp you don,t relize it.

whats wrong with cutting off the ears on my track clips all toghter ? i dont think it would hurt any thing and as for TRACKS CANADA SAYING THAT I DIDNT NEED A FULLY CLIPPED TRACK THERE FULL OF CRAP AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TRACK FROM THEM IN MY LIFE ! same goes for ABSOULUTE POWER in st albert !

rednytro,

Have you found some clips that are off center? If so, I cut a couple guides on mine off thinking that wouldn't hurt anything. Wouldn't do it to a lot of them though.

no me and 2 buddies spent a whole 15 pack checking for clips that were off. I think its just all the force is being put on one tooth on my driver instead of two teeth and spreading the load out more evenly
