Callaghan and Brandy closure info

I am sure you guy's know this info and it was probably posted before.
From what I know this is the individual that is responsible for this decision.
Regional manager coast region
Tim Hoskin, Recreation officer
42000 Loggers lane. Ste 101
Squamish B.C. V0N-3G0
604-898-2125
I am going to phone him and ask for a explanation and reason for this decision.
I think we may have a case based on "grandfathering"
Sledders were there before anyone else.
I know this has worked before on roads " right of ways"
I am not a lawyer but just trying to find an solution.

It was not only this guy. It involved a larger group of people. I have posted the names of the parties involved in multiple locations but it sounds like the area is done. Callaghan was (is) one of my favorite riding areas and it is a shame that more people did not act on this earlier.......it might have made a difference.

From what I can see, sledders still have use of the "Multi-use" zone which is seperated on the map from the "Non Motorized" zone.

This would include Brandywine mountain and Powder Mountain as well as access to Sproat on the east side of the Calaghan Valley Nordic Road..

Where would crossing the Calaghan Valley Nordic Road be possible? Is the ministry going to provide a safe crossing point with traffic light from the Brandywine parking lots across this road?

Linc... I'm kind of confused here... when did the goverment announce that the extensive Brandywine limits were being imposed?

Well I just finished watching the documentary Zeitgeist at zeitgeist.com. The old smoke is starting to clear and I for one will sled wherever the fack I want. They keep taking our area away then I will start unloading at the ski resorts and do some hillclimbing on the black diamond runs. Screw em all. Tired of being politically correct and not pissing people off.

They have trained us well!!!

Looks like the max fine for disobeying sction 58 1(b) is only 115.00 bucks So If you get caught one out of 10 tens it works out the same as a trail pass.

Under the act

Protection of recreation and range resources on Crown land
58 (1) If the minister determines that it is necessary to protect a recreation or range resource or to manage public recreation use on Crown land, he or she by order may restrict or prohibit

(a) a non-recreational use of

(i) any of the following established under the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act for recreation:

(A) a resource management zone;

(B) a landscape unit;

(C) a sensitive area, or

(ii) any of the following that is on Crown land:

(A) an interpretive forest site;

(B) a recreation site or recreation trail,

except any non-recreational use permitted under the Coal Act, the Mineral Tenure Act, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Act or the Pipeline Act, or

(b) a recreational use anywhere on Crown land, except a use that is specifically permitted by or under another enactment.

(2) The minister may make different orders under subsection (1) for different uses and locations.

(3) The minister must post a notice of an order under subsection (1) in the area to which the order applies.

(4) Without lawful authority, a person must not remove, alter, destroy or deface a notice posted under subsection (3).

I don't think they can enforce this in the Park because a park is not "any of the following established under the Forest Practices Code of British Columbia Act for recreation"

We should get some legal advice n this from the BCSF, I don't think what they are trying to do will hold up in court.

It say it is protecting recreational values. What about our recreational values? When was the last time you saw a non-moterized person at callaghan lake?

Good luck to the enforcers tryin to keep up in the steep and deep...send a helicopter out to give me a ticket but i'll be in the trees or sittin in the Icecave drinking Redbulls until they are gone.

Amen. See ya there.

In 12 years total I've seen less than 15 skiers in the outback TOTAL, and I can guarantee that combined, they've spent less combined over 12 years than I did in the first 3 months of sledding. That is sea to sky corridor money that might not be coming back if the gov't keeps this up. I hope those cross country skis and bottled water at $400 per year can keep your businesses running. I hope you don't notice my annual sled purchase, gear, turbo, property tax, fuel, local mechanic support, and various guest hosting incidentals (restaurants, bars, clothing, etc etc) revenue missing...

Count me in too! Good luck catching me.....I've already raced a helicopter on the ice cap and I'm sure they will run out of fuel before I will.
