Cabin roof shoveling prices??

I've been shoveling roofs in the Island Park area for a few year but only for a couple family and family friend cabins. I'm looking to expand a bit to help pay for sledding and am wondering what you think is a reasonable cost for a job would be. I enjoy doing the work and don't want to rip anyone off. I'm not sure how to classify roof sizes, but lets say the average I'd be doing would be a 2500 to 3000 sq foot cabin with a double pitched roof. Thanks!

I would suggest figuring what you need to make per hour and estimate jobs based on that. If you decide to step it up remember to account for things like insurance and all in your estimates or you can very quickly work for nothing. I know from experience.

I say--what ever the market will bare!! They do not want to do it. Any competition in the area? Find out what they are charging and stay right in line. Maybe if the same customer wants to use you more than once a season--some kinda of break for repeat buisness or a break for referals they get you.

H20SKE...

over here in north west montana there are charging about $350 dollars for a trailer house. mostly because no one wants to shovel. and they can bacicly put any price they want on it.

I'd have someone price shop for you (your current clients) and see what others would charge them to do what you're currently doing and go from there.

It depends on whether you're just using a shovel, or have some other equipment to ease things up. I do know that I've shoveled the roof on our family cabin for the last 5 years on Henry's and it's only about 1,000 sq. ft. It usually takes me about 6-8 hours. If I were to charge by the hour I wouldn't think of doing it for less than $20/hr. Be careful though, those dang metal roofs are suicide once the snow is off and they're wet.

We have a house in the UP of Michigan around 1500 sq with a double pitch roof. I pay $125 to have it cleared but he does leave the sno piled up in front of the garage.

Disco Dan, Thanks for the offer but I'm not looking to travel so far.

Thanks for the other opinions. I like the idea of price shopping and matching or beating the other prices.

A buddy and I actually enjoy doing this work. We are seniors in high school and are looking to pick up one or two cabins a weekend.

I know some of the companies that are doing it are using a wire to cut the snow into blocks and then they just push it off the roof. Little easier than shoveling but only works when there's a ton on there. Not sure what they're charging.

when i was in highschool a friend and i charged 100 bucks for a cabin roof. most of these roofs are pretty small and take about 4 hours to do. the bigger roofs it was 100 bucks then 20 an hour after. if they wanted the snow moved after it would be another 50 bucks if we used the snowblower or another 100 if it was to be shovelled. some thought it was overpriced but about half that said that phoned for use to finish the roof as it was taking them forever.

but like others have said dont overcharge the area.
