Buying kit this weekend need input

So I've been researching and mulling over multiple options for the last 2 months and still need some last minute input. I have 3 options. All will be with TSS and timbersled. I live in MN and won't trail ride here but will build some jumps and screw around in some private wooded land or something. I have a heavy motocross background and like to jump. In the snowies and cooke I will ride trees 70% of time and try and jump/drop the other 30%.

2016 SX 120 with 4 hours, mint. Comes with TSS, timbersled cover, the fox air shocks, tunnel bag, gas can, extra chains, wheel dollies, and some more. It has like a ice scratcher whip type thing on the front ski.... not sure what that is or if thats standard. Price is $5200 (no tax + long drive and $100 in gas to get).

2016 ST new. I believe $4500 + tax , free standard kit plus TSS kit brings me to about $5600 or $5700 I believe.

2017 Raw. Probably bring me to $5500 with TSS

Just need to decide by Friday or the SX kit is out the window...I would say the shocks are what sway me the most and want to use my snowbike more for screwing around, jumping, wheeling, throwing turn down wheelis on little lips, etc so want it to feel like a dirtbike. Thanks guys been learning a lot. Also still can't figure out hand warmer option for KX450f and the stator, only thing I can see is AME grips and they seem on the fine line to being able to run off the power. I will used a battery powered light. THANKS

My buddy loves his sx120. Super playful and great for jumps/drops, but does extremely well in the trees as well.

I'd consider the RAW with a shock upgrade in the future. The stiffer side panels and rails seem to put power to the ground more efficiently than the 2016 kits.

I really like the 10" wide sx kits, but I absolutely hate the float3 shock package on them.

Ha and with both your guys answer I am back to square one. What about the floats are bad? I just hate to buy the raw for more than the SX and then still have to upgrade shocks.

If you're a hardcore moto guy and want something that rides like a dirt bike, you should come check out the MotoTrax kits. MotoTrax kits are built from the ground up with "Moto" in mind. Everything from weight transfer to cornering and especially jumping are tuned to mimic your bike in the dirt. Our MotoCross Edition compares to the price of the options you have listed and you can get a brand new warrantied kit built for your riding style. We use fully adjustable Fox RC2 shocks with 3 way adjustment (high and low speed compression, rebound and pre-load) on that kit.

We will also be at hay days next weekend so you can check out the 2017 models in person. PM me and we can discuss some of our options and features in detail.

I rocked a 2016 ST with TS and 16 SX this winter. The ST sits a little lower and is definately more fun for a less aggressive rider. Better bang for your buck, a little less quality for jumps. I sold my ST to my dad who has the exact same bike, so I have ridden the same bike side by side with the ST and SX before.

As teal said, im not a freak for the float 3's on my sx. I just don't really like how air shocks handle, BUT, BUT BUT!! lol I love them a lot more then the non adjustable zero pro's on my ST. Biggest issue I was having with my ST is the front shock comes fully wound out on preload when you buy it, so for those of us who enjoy jumping a lot, being able to pump up the shocks on the SX mean the difference between bottoming out so hard parts break, and a decent landing. The SX also seems to 'POP' more off jumps and obstacles. so if you wanna shred it hard like a Moto Bike I think you will really like it.

I was really blown away with how the SX worked in deep snow. It really seems to leave almost nothing on the table unless the snow is kind of rotten then it does punch through more then the ST, but nothing to write home about.

One of the biggest sells for me on the SX is that the panels line up with the frame so you can grip your frame with your ankles more like a dirtbike, less of the pigeon toe'd look of anything else.

Floats ride like a 2x4. They soak up big hits ok once you have the pressure dialed in. Where I really dis-like them is on a whooped out trail - they do good for a while but eventually rebound violently and try to throw you over the bars. Not as bad as another brand of kit that was suggested above though. :face-icon-small-sho:face-icon-small-win

Really though - you can't go wrong. All 3 kits that you mentioned are good.

The ST with the Raptor TRS springs really was the best setup I have rode to date on the whooped out trails, so compliant!! That ST LE should be mint though. Ahh, the demise of riding good shocks. Once you have them its hard to go back.

Awesome guys. I think for this year I am going to go with the SX as it comes with plenty of extras which will save me even more. I am going to hope to like the fox floats haha. Appreciate the helpful feedback.

Floats are great shocks... you have to 'wrap your head' around how they function though... and what the adjustments do.

On the 2017 ... I thought the only float shock was if you ordered the optional TSS??

The 2015 and 2016 kits came with Float 3's as the skid shock.

Unfortunately with a single chambered air shock, there really isn't much to think about. If I keep slamming the bottom when jumping, needs psi. And the way these shocks function you end up adding additional resistance and harshness to the begining of the stroke as well. Now with something like an evol, or RC2, QS3 etc, you can then adjust main spring rate (psi) as well as the other chambers for a more varied shock curve, also, with compression and rebound dampning adjustments, you can affect your valving too, which is really what is needed. Were trying to cover too many bases with 1 adjustment. The single chamber air shocks in a setup that will handle big jumps will be rather harsh over small chatter. Unless you play with pressure during the ride you just have to sort of find your happy medium.

Moto-Trax

I am going Moto-Trax this year for the main reason I think it will handle more like a dirt bike.

If the fox float 3 really suck, I could always get the Evol upgrade kit for $300 down the road. Would that help tremendously? I have already went over budget with a new sled and then the snowbike idea went from only one dirtbike to a dedicated bike so there went another $3500.

Also I have to say this Mototrax guy is killing me. I have been researching mototrax all night and now am thinking mototrax vs the timberlsed SX. The more I research the more unsure I end up.

We are tying mototrax.. I think there is a lot going in innovation wise with their kit for the price point ...

Definitely try the mototrax before buying. It wasn't a popular choice at the demo day that we had last year. You can't go wrong with the sx, it's a really fun and capable kit.

We will have our 2017 kit at Hay Days next weekend. Come check it out in person, I think you'll be really impressed with our design. Our Motocross kit already comes with a Fox RC2 shock that has 3-way adjustment so no need to upgrade. Like i said come check it out in person, our kit design speaks for itself!

I think mototrax is a great design. Having said that, I went with Timbersled due to company size and scale. The mototrax I was around for a day worked very well.

Honestly, I bet you will have a freaking blast, me and Darren (Teal_210) are both just always jumping on the Float shock hate train when we can. If you ride aggressively and want to do decent sized jumps and drops

When you start trying to do more dirtbike style jumps/moves vs just boondocking, I wouldn't trade my sx for anything, even though I bag on the shocks.

Here is a little photo or two to get you hyped to shred on it.
