Buying a sled with torn air filters

So I'm looking at a 2010 m8 with low miles to get back into mountain riding after some years out of it. I have some concerns with it. It only has 1200 miles but in the pics it looks like was a hard 1200 miles. Main thing is the filter up by the headlight is torn pretty good. Is that the only barrier into the motor? If it's torn does it allow stuff into the motor? Because don't want it if it's been sucking snow, tree bark and other stuff into the motor.

Ow and another thing. I looked at another M8 and the guy scared me away when he said the cat dealer did some work on it and forgot to hook up the oil injection unit. He ended up scoring the piston in a short distance so they put in a new top end for him. My concern is what happened to the crank then? Probably would buy that one if he wouldn't have told me that.

Ya the one with the oil pump un hooked untill it burned down would bother me The other one not so much. You need to ask if any sled you buy has ever been modded or turboed.ALOT of people are pulling turbo kits off and selling as stock sleds so just be aware.

Pull the pipe off when you look at the sled again and see if there is any scoring on the piston skirts (should be done on any used sled with many miles on it in my opinion. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Just replace the screen if you buy the sled.

The one running without the oil injection would scare me a bit too.

We'll I passed it up, If you don't care enoughf that snow is getting sucked into your motor then What elese did ya neglect on it. Pretty sure he was storing it outside too, a arms already had small rust areas.

There are a lot of cheap sleds out there right now. I wouldn't settle for any sled with a questionable past.
