Buying a new sled, what should i get...

Well what should i buy? the riding i do is mostly open hills, light boondocking on occasion, hill climbs, very little trail.

Im interested in an Apex with a BD 2860, purelogic box, built motor and basic tuning done to it.

My other thought is picking up an XP 154x, puting a 156 camo extreme under it, BJ clutch kit, can, vents, and some light weight parts.

My buddys ride a t-apex, t-nytro, t-phazer, polaris dragon 155 with a bit of motor work. Id say all of our skill levels are moderate but improving with more ride time.

Which way would you go?

Big can of worms opened here. Test ride several machines and pick the one that feels best to YOU and that has good dealer support. Everyone is different, what one guy says on here, may work for him but not for you.

exactly what luke said....ride every machine that interest you..pick the one you like best that has a good dealer....today all the machines are damn good..some lighter, some better handling, some more powerful, and every combo between..pick what you like not what others think....I ride a D-8 dragon..but my buddy rides a xp. another rides a phazer..each loves his sled.... but all have their merits..and their pitfalls....................

How big of a guy are you? average?

What sled are you coming off of, or will this be your first sled of ownership?

I feel your pain man. I'm also trying to compare 800s in the 155" range and so far I haven't heard or seen that much difference in any of them. I hate to say it but Dealer support and incentives may make my choice for me. In the amount of years I've been sledding I've never seen the field as even as it is now.

Id say im about average size, 175lbs, 6ft tall.

im currentkly on summit 144"s, with lots of weight taken off, one mostly stock motor one RKT. the RKT sled hauls but i need more track for the steep and deep...

Im torn between the two sleds, one will be fun for playing around the other for doing some crazy climbing.

thanks for the help so far.

Sounds like a lot of sled for a moderate skill level, but if I had the cash and nothing better to do than spend it on a sled, I'd have a turbo Yami.

I did try an xp 154, nitro super charged, and an 08 D8 163 this season, as well as a summit 8 151 07. I found that the D8 was a more user friendly sled that will take u where u want to go,
I'm 6'1 215lbs and found every thing pretty easy to throw around, the nitro was a lot of work to try n keep it straight up the hill. If u ride a doo stick with doo, but as hillbilly stated the incentives will help make up ur mind.

M8 all the way, why waste your time with anything else???:) best have some serious coin if your gonna ride with the turbo guys!

i know that's why i bought my sled,,,,fuel mileage!
same as my truck...my 06 Hemi gets 24mpg!!!!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

dude
i think i read your post on dootalk....

ride what the ol pocketbook says you can ride, so you can afford to get west lots
ride what your buddies ride...this way if you need a fix, at least one person in ur group
will more than likely have had the same issue and its a quik(er) fix
regardless of what you buy, you will fix it

have fun deciding, its gonna be a long summer

I was thinking of dropping down to a 600 etec at 25 miles to the gallon. My sled i have gas hanging all over the place on it, and i still cant get back to the great areas. And bc has lots of great areas, that can't be accessed because of fuel issues.

The XP 163 is so far my favorite, will be a on a BD TM8 next year...so i might change my mind, but i highly doubt it....who knows?

For your riding style and area I say you can't lose either way choosing between a dragon 800 with mods or a turbo nytro. I've ridden all the mountain sleds and those two stand out the most to me.
