Looking to get another project sled and thought that it might make a good Christmas present for my dad. I found an 06 Fusion 700 with a locked up motor and some slight front end damage(guy says it is from towing the sled after the motor locked up). Just was wondering what you guys thought. Is this something I should look into getting or should I keep looking. What would be a good price in this condition? Looks like it may need a hood and definitely needs a bumper and the condition of the motor is unknown, just locked up. Thanks for your help guys.

Locked up 700 Fuse for Christmas present? C'mon be nice to Dad!

I was looking as it as more of something that we can work on together not just here ya go its yours now. haha

Sounds like a project you should have fun with..you already know your way around the platform. Updated front end, suspension, mod a little..maybe a wrap. You know one of those " budget " builds!

$1,500 kinda on the fence about it, I know I'm gonna have to put some into it but I know its gonna be worth it.

Kinda high if u ask me..it's basically a wrecked sled with a blown motor..

I would say $800-1000

Too bad ur far away, I have an 05 rmk 900 151 in my drivewy that needs a top end and oil cable..and he can't afford to buy parts and pay me to fix it. Been trying to make him just sell it cheap ;)

I just looked as some more pictures of it and it really isn't the hood that is damaged it is the front hood hinges that are broken. I sent a message to the guy to see if that and the bumper are all that is damaged. I just looked at my sled and the hinge can be easily replaced. Sled does not look like it hit anything. Hinge is only $50

Rest of the sled is real clean. I assume the low prices were due to the combination of locked up motor and assumption that the hood would need replaced. What do you think now that the hood can be used?

Not $1500. That motor is going to be expensive. I bought an 04' RMK, chassis was OK, motor was junk, paid 900 and that was 3 years ago, probably a little high too. I'd offer them 800, would not pay over 1000.

So you gonna do it ?
Well I don't know. Around here a running one goes for around $3500-$4500. Even if the motor is the worst case scenario there is a used one on ebay for $1400, add $50 for the hinge which is all that the guy says it needs,(I have a spare bumper) and the total would only be $2950 plus all of the fun of working on it. But everyone else seems to think the price is on the high side.

I didn't look into engine prices myself, I assumed they would exceed 2k. Thats not so bad, so long as the chassis really is in good shape, but as usual hope for the best and prep for the worst when it comes to buying a used sled/motor. You may want to look into (price out) using the wrecked motor for core parts and building up a motor with fresh parts so you know what kind of shape your engine is in to begin with. Of course if thats way more expensive than picking up a used motor, buy used, but with the reputation of the 9 I think knowing the health of the motor is worth something. Certainly not trying to discourage you, it sounds like a fun project. I wish my dad lived closer so we could things like that more often.

Edit: Just saw/remembered this is not a 900

Can buy a 900 for $2500 -$3500 in perfect running condition. Will cost a minimum of $2000 to get a motor in it if you can find a good used one. $3000-$4000 if you decided to rebuild the motor and need a crank and cylinders. Better off just to find a running one.

Well I went with my gut instinct and bought the sled and after looking it over I found what I think is why the motor locked up. The owner must have hit something and poked a hole in the radiator and lost all of the coolant and tried to ride it back. The motor got really hot and actually started to melt the coolant temp sensor and some of the plastic loom. What all will I have to pay close attention to when I start to tear this thing apart. I can't wait to rip into this thing, I'm glad I bought it, it gives me and my dad something to do together and have fun with.

They will melt the plastic loom on a deep powder day if the hood vents get plugged up as well as any plastic around the pipe. It's a good idea to wrap all the wiring near the pipe with heat tape.

I did that to my 900 when I had the motor out and installed a new harness over the summer. Cheap insurance.
