Talked to the honda and Yammi dealer here in town. 7200 for the YZ, 7500 for the CRF. Ive been away from bikes for a while so Im not sure if one is better than the other? Any advice??

YZ all the way.

My dad bought a 2007 CRF-450X last year and the forks were so screwed up on it it was barley ridable.

In 2007, MXA and all the mags rated that bike phenomenally high, then somehow magically this year they are rating the forks on that bike a D+ .... Wonder what happened under the table there?

I don't know, I'm not a bike expert, but we've had to put a steering stabilizer on, add fork oil, kouba link, lower tripple clamps, a bunch of **** just to get the head shake under control on it.

If i was buying a new dirt bike this year it'd definatley be a WR or YZ ...

What kind of shape are each in?

What year are they?

I think it is safe to say that not ALL Honda's are going to have the forks screwed up on them.

My MX buddy just got a 2008 CRF450. He has put the bomb pipe on it and sent the forks off to Enzio to be set up for him. He took it out last Saturday and said its the best of the 450's he has owned. My brother has the RMZ450. Its also a great bike. Me I am still a 2 stroker....CR500.

if you want it to last forever buy honda

if you want to ride it for a year and get a new one and resell the bike buy a honda better resale value sense they last longer have owned yamaha kawasaki and honda

honda is the best and eastiest to sell and get used parts or aftermarket parts for

either way welcome back to the bike world :D

I beg to differ... all the Honda's here do not make it through 1 race season without dropping valves if they are left stock. The Yammi's are bullet broof. They may not rate 1st in all the tests, but are usually 2nd in every catorgory and the motors last forever! That or a new Kawi, they are good bikes too. The Honda's are great while they run, just expect to have to rebuild a head.

I'm not sure you can go wrong with either bike. You might see what you can get from the dealer for servie or freebies.

What dealer will give you better support?

I would suggest you take a hard look at the KTM !!!! They have alot of features that they jap builds dont have. Electric start and a hydrolic clutch just to name a few.

well said every honda i've owned has been bulletproof

I have been a Honda man my whole life. I purchased a CRF450X this year only because it still had steel valves instead of titanium as the CRF450R's have. If I was going for the race bike, I am afraid that I would choose the Yammi due to the valve issue that the Honda's are having.
I also chose the X on the CRF due to the headlight, electric start and kickstand. Maybe I am turning into a pansy.

I would not get the X because of the gearing. All of those other items you can easily add.

I've got a plated '06 450X, love the button....:D

are the X models still detuned compared to the R's?

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. Im not sure which way to go. The honda dealer is also the skidoo dealer in town and they have been VERY good to me. But, Ive never dealt with the Yammi dealer but have heard nothing but good things about him (much better than the honda dealer) I think I would almost prefer to deal with the Yammi dealer just to give him a try because I have heard such good things about him.

Cowbell, to answer your question....a little bit of everything. Motocross track, river hills, sand dunes, trails, etc. Im a pretty aggressive rider (sleds and bikes) but I dont plan on hitting the motocross circuit or anything.

On thing I have heard is that the Honda has more usable power, where the yammi has to be reved out a little higher? Is the valve issue that common in the hondas?

They are probably both fantastic bikes and I guess it most likely boils down to which one feels better. Do dealers normally demo these units? I dont think the ones here do.

Of those 2 bikes, I'd go with the YZ. I looked at all of them a few months ago, and ended up buying a KTM450 because it had a lot of features on it the others didn't have. I also felt it had a little more power than the others, but I could be wrong there. All the newer bikes are so close, I don't think you'll notice much difference, unless you plan on racing Supercross where every little bit matters. I've owned all brands of 2 strokes, and they all worked fine as long as you maintain them. This was the 1st thumper I've owned, & I love it. I love the low end grunt at the dunes, it's so much more controlable. I just had to sit on all of them, and go with the one that felt most comortable for me.
