Butte Meadows 09

Alright, the red headed step child of the Sierra (or Cascade if you prefer) is officially in the house. Butte Meadows now has its own brand new; don't call it fat, call it fluffy - 4 feet of pow. Now I can't actually attest to the four feet, but I can attest to the 2 1/2-3 feet I shoveled off the travel trailer roof in the trees, at the Outpost. I talked to Bill (owner) this afternoon and they had just got the power back on and had two more feet since Sunday at 1900 when Amy and I left.

Have no idea whats up at the park, but if Butte Meadows has an honest four, I'd have to say the snopark has got to have at least 5. The Summits have got to be 6-8 minimum I would think. A good day of sun probably wouldn't hurt to settle it a bit. What I shoveled, first 18 inches must have got precip because it was a little like trying to cut brown sugar, the last foot or so was light and fluffly.

Thank goodness the snow is here; especially since its the start of frost season and fungicide spray season:mad::rolleyes: However, I will endeavor to provide you all with the food and fiber you need to sustain a high quality of life (no matter what Al Gore & Steven Chu think about Ag.) and because a can a week of Blue Diamond almonds is all I ask; I'll also provide you with entertainment. Think smurf like Jack Black, meets Christan Bail meets Lou Panella on a rant at home plate meets Twany Kaetain (the later years)writhing on Whitesnakes Jaguar hood (only the hood is snow).

I know some of you now have just a bit of puke in your mouth after that visual.......go ahead .......rinse........swish........spit. Better?! Now you can understand the high degree of suckosity of which I seem to have mastered. You want to see a guy who is large and in charge be a master of his domain (not that one!...the deep powder one) check out UPINYA. However, if you're into something more along the lines of Fat Bastard, minus the kilt, trying to wrestle a 150hp shaved ice machine in a snowglobe; I'm your huckleberry.

See you on the mountain, I hope. BTW Jlowe, I'm ready to write the intro for ES6-POKER RUN! :face-icon-small-sho

finally something to report! Interesting report though MN!?!?!?

Speaking of poker runs, when is the poker run for this year?

Stacy - Rode up there on Friday morning - got a break in the weather so we headed up the county road. Josh had just finished the parking lot and the groomers were headed out. Probably 3' at Jonesville. We played around a bit then broke trail back down the 'B' line. It was still snowing when I left at 8:30 in Sat. See you on the 28th.

Mike

I can't wait to see the pix; with the size of your unit (sled), the action shots should look like some kind of bizzaro Sea World. You tethered to that gigantic orca painted red; motoring under the snow like bugs bunny on his way to Rancho Cuuuuuuuuuucamunga.:)

Late.

Where are my pictures homeboys? I've been sitting here all night drinking coffee and clicking refresh. Now my left mouse button is wore out, and I gotta P. Not to mention its time for work.:( I'm now beating my desk with my slipper; demanding you show me the pow!:D

You know how it is with poser:eek:

I hope to get up and ride with you this year Stacy

Sorry, left the camera on the charger... i am trying to get the pictures for darin when i do i will post.. I will tell you that it was DEEP.. The roads were in excellent condition my complements to the groomers.. The brush is covered on the hill but not yet settled around the manzanita manking for a interesting climb. after several trys we finnaly got to the top.. The snow at stump hill was great along with the new warming hut.. just watch for snow slinding off the roof!!!!!

I'll try to give an update from today. Muddling through bills, then post office, then shovel trailer roof, then maybe squeak a quick blast through the backwoods. Later perhaps I can tell y'all how pow now.:)

The trails are great. However; if you like the deep, then I wouldn't bother. There is nothing at Jonesville for the off trail rider. Twas it me, I'd sell your sled, thats how poor it is.

BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA:p

Alright, here's the real meal deal. For the most part, I'd say its the shizzle. Rode out the back of J-ville from family cabin, crossed Colby Rd and thought I'd climb through the trees a little. Well, apparently "a little" is the western end of Manzanita Mtn. That is until I got to Andre 162's underbrush at the top. It was at that point that I decided that digging out a 150 horse shaved ice machine from 6 feet of manzanita, by myself, nearing dark, from a little out of bounds of where I told people I would be - isn't probably the best idea. So needless to say my sojourn was wisely cut short.

Talking to Adkins' (they went to the high lakes via Sunflower) they said the snow was nearly bottomless around the high lakes. What I rode around J-ville was very ridable, but don't be stupid or I think you'll get a lesson in diggin'. Gonna try to get up there today and actually ride without shoveling the roof (and hopefully my sled):) All in all, the snow is setting up nice and I'd say we are ready for another powdering up.

See ya on the hill!

First off; bumpin' the 40 and actin' 20 will make you tired. But its that good tired. The snow was pretty good today - ride dang near where ever you want with enough depth to keep you out of trouble, but set up enough to let you make a mistake and still recover.

Rolled Silvertip style today; boondockin' with the carhartt t-shirt and tekvest.

Lets see what happens with next precip.

mattymac - A pleasure to meet you at the Outpost yesterday. Thanks for introducing yourself. It turned out to be a good ride, I had a few people up from Sacramento who wanted to check out the area. May try to head up to the high lakes if the weather permits, only been there once.

Mike

X's 2 mike! A pleasure as well!

Props to all the people who put this event on! This is how you run a grooming outfit/poker run/fundraiser!!!! Enjoy supporting such a well run orginization!!!

Kind of a longshot but, if anyone found a new craftsmen red/black 24" or so long prybar between the parkinglot and the first fork in the road could you let me know? A buddy of mine had his clutch explode and I lent him my clutch off my turbo to finish the day and while in the midst of packing out tools/parts we lost it along there. Thanks!!!!

The snow is pretty nice all in all. Yesterday we pretty much boondocked our way around the Sunflower area. Snow is deep enough for off trail, but pay attention to the "lumps"; some of them aren't as far under the snow as one might think. There is anywhere from a trace to maybe a foot (on the blown & loaded locations) of pow. Most of that is set up pretty well. There is some fluffy stuff, but usually on the back sides if the hills.

Today and tomorrow should be great days for exploring and for beginner boondockers. Lots of untracked areas that are firm enough for teaching rookies. Amy & I are going to try to get up tomorrow for her first ride of the year, if we can find a sitter.

Besides the thinness on some obstacles, becareful for drains; especially around the 4-6k foot range. If there aren't any tracks, pay real close attention lest you enjoy handle bar to the groin action. UUFFF!

Maybe see y'all tomorrow.
