hey guys

there has been a few avy's around bc lately because of this dec 5 layer! i have one of the old analog trancievers, but now am thinkin i should upgrade to a digital one to be more safe... what is everyone using? and where did you buy it? if you dont mind me askin

I got my BCA tracker off of snowbigdeal.com

It was the best price I found. Great service too. The BCAs are a great beacon, and alot of people use them. Very easy to use.

I just did my avy course and the BCA trackers seem to be a lot easier to use from the start. (For me anyway) They get you fairly close then you have to work on the pinpoint search. The Mammut Pulse looked like a really good beacon as well. A few people there were impressed with them. They were very good on the pinpoint search.

hey guys
here has been
i have one of the old analog trancievers,

Take that beacon of yours and chuck it in front of the next transport truck you see coming! When sheet happens you don't have time to fug with those piece of sheets!
Get a new ortovox, mammot, pieps, and most importantly practice with it often!
Even with the latest greatest beacons, they are still all overpriced hunks of crap! With all the technology thats out there now and the price we pay, we should have state of the art tracker systems.

which beacon is the most comftorable to wear? my old pieps with the neck strap needs to be taken out back and shot for the lack of comfort!

good lesson

our last ride we were talkin in the hotel
2 trackers and 1 old SOS

so, up on the hill the SOS goes for a lil rip and while he's gone we toss my tracker in the snow for him to find

when he comes back it was a gong show watchin him try to find it.
we kinda put him on the spot but he was cool with it. lesson learned.

I picked up a tracker for him this week.

its hard to argue how much better and user friendly a tracker is.

the tracker seems to have a 40 m range where the newer pieps and mammut have a 50 m range... that is a considerable difference when trying to find you buddy...

If you get in an avy that goes down to the Dec 5th layer you are probably going to die of trauma and no beacon is going to save you from that. Get a newer type beacon and learn how to use it but don't depend on it for saving your AZZ

go to www.beaconreviews.com There is a ton of info on this site. Sorry I can't do a link cuz I'm on my phone! I personally went with the Pieps and purchased through snowbigdeal. Good price and super easy to deal with. They ship out of Utah and use Fedex which should be a plus for Canadians!

Mammut Pulse (I also have an Ortovox F1, and a Tracker.....Pulse by far is most comfy, and d*mn impressive on how well it works)

Why not focus on ways not to be buried like a ABS pack? Yes you need a beacon and a good at that. Just think about being buried in concrete with just moments left until the lights go out. That $900 back pack don't sound so expensive does it?
