Out riding the other day, and sled abruptly dies like I hit the kill switch. Wouldn't start back up. Tried new plugs and it started right up. So closed the hood and got my gear back on. Was idling fine and then just shut off again. This time there was smoke rolling out from under hood. Smoke was coming from ecu, and smelled like an electrical fire. Got towed back by a ski-doo. Sled is '09 Dragon 800 w/2300 miles. first failure of any kind. Has any one had this kind of experience?? dealer says I need to replace voltage regulator and ecu, and should be good to go again.

Just saw the "protecting the ecm" thread by full Monte. Didn't realize so may people have had this problem. Anyway, I'm a basic member and can't read the end of the thread. Is there a solution now. Besides replacing those two things and waiting for it to happen again??
Btw, my dealer is giving me a new ecu and programming it at no charge. Even though I've had no warranty for a few years. He said polaris is giving them to him to take care of good customers. So good deal for me.
Oustanding....Make sure you buy your dealer some pizza and or beer because this is not the norm...
I was thinking about doing the extra grounding. It can't hurt. Have you heard of anyone still having a failure after trying this? just don't like getting towed in!
