Bully Dog----crazy Larry?????

skip it.

run a TST and a Smarty.

JMHO, but it does work better.

screw tst, lamest customer service in the biz. they charged my buddy 250 dollars to upgrade his powermax not to mention it has the check engine light on 50 percent of the time.(common with the r-49).btw iam vector its mads smarty.a few weeks ago we put the wild tq manegment on 30hp mode on an 04 305/555 and you could tell the tranny wasn't liking it too much.(50000 on the truck)my other buddy with an 06 ran his smarty on 60 hp with wild tq and fried two trannys (nv5600)in a 6 month period.the dealer replaced them both times:mad:.crazy larry won't fuel near as hard on the bottom, but will show better numbers on the dyno.

It won't show better numbers when the TST/Smarty are stacked.

You do know that TST and Mads work together on this stuff, right? Marco comes over here and tests at TST...maybe you already knew that.

I've never had an issue with TST that I had to use their warranty department, so I can't comment on that. I was the third owner of my Drag PM3 that I had on my '01, and the 4th owner is now very happy with it as well. Never an issue. When I needed a new adapter (when I sold it), I called up and had it the next day...seems like good service to me.

I had Catcher #5 and Smarty Serial #1. I wasn't all that happy when Marco pretty much stopped supporting the 2nd gens, but what's a guy to do? His 3rd Gen stuff is second to NO ONE, and I'm sure the 6.7L stuff will be the same way. My 6.7 will have a TST/Smarty on it someday.

Uh no... burnt his clutch maybe if he didn't know how to drive. You can't hurt a NV4500 or 5600 at the power levels he's at.

it was more than a clutch...you can hurt those trannys if you drive it as hard as he did.be careful with the wild tq mangment settings with stock trannys is all iam saying.and for those who havent tried it, seriously need to try it once.all the guys on the diesel forums complain about having a touchy throttle, too much low end.whatever I like the way the power comes on.

josh i know they work in conjunction, just sayin mads is the real company.i would go to bob if i wanted one another anyways..glad you had good luck but would you be happy if your check engine light was always going on and off? glad they gave you a free adapter.he also had to pay for one of those to.Just a year ago you were saying fock mods sick of reliabilty blah blah blah. now your talking stacking boxes? That didn't last long.lol

I've only dealt with Bob (obviously with Marco direct on some issues, but Bob always kicks the programs downstream).

I didn't get a free adapter...I bought it. But, I had it overnight at no extra charge. Good service.

I said "someday" I'll stack. 11,642 miles as of tonight. Needs another 49k before she'll get ANY mods, let alone a stack! 100% bone stock, and that ain't changing for quite some time to come!

There are plenty of trucks running around with twice that HP on 4500/5600 trannies. What clutch was he running? If you're sled pulling with a 1 1/4" input 4500 you might twist it but street driving with a 1 3/8" input 5600? No way unless you're a complete driving hack and even then with a stock clutch, it would slip long before you could hurt the tranny.

Got my rotors and calipers back Joshy. I'm still tossing around having Shane build me twins. I like midrange hit with the Silver Bullet so I dunno if I wanna give that up. It goes from 2-50psi in a second or two. I've got a Helix 2 in it and the head is ported and held down with ARPs so I'm sure I could get as nutty with twins as I can fuel with a VP. I put a fuel cell in it with 1/2" fuel lines and 12v mech pump. I'll post some pics soon.

Sick.

The only reason to go twins is for EGT control. You won't make more power, obviously lag will be worse, and getting them fit up and welded is always a joy (cause you can't put on a standard set).

1) Stock torque management.2) Mild torque increase.3) Moderate torque increase.°4) The "wild thing".....°° ( This SW is available in the section for not stock engines)° A stock automatic transmission can handle this version only with a "conservative" driving style.°° Aftermarket transmission required!!!

mike, thats on there site for a reason.the problem is driving conservative when its so much fun to romp on the throttle.I put a few hundred miles on my brothers 04 ctd w/48re with 5inch turbo back, afe stg.2, smarty on moderate 60hp yesterday.no problems with a 7,000 lbs load and managed 13 mpg going 75mph. truck averaged 17 mpg unloaded the first 200 miles unloaded driving 75-80 mph.driving 60 mph the display was showing 24 mpg average till I jumped on the interstate.

I agree but you said he fried a NV5600 which simply ain't possible at the low power levels he's at. 48RE auto is something entirely different than an NV5600 6speed

Stock 48re tranny will take a lot of abuse if you're not towing heavy

"I agree"

apparantly not

"48RE auto is something entirely different than an NV5600 6speed"

no chit.

"Stock 48re tranny will take a lot of abuse if you're not towing heavy"

maybe, maybe not.do you know from a personal experience?

LOL this will be my last post on this. You originally stated that your buddy fried two NV5600 because of a box right? BS LOL then you proceed to paste some statement from some site that this tune could damage an auto tranny and that they posted that for a reason suggesting your assertion about tearing up a 5600 was valid LOL. Call them up or ask on your favorite diesel site how much hp a NV5600 can handle. It's Waay more than can be made with electronics alone. Yes, I have personal experience with well over 500hp on a stock 48re. What would you like to know?

mike if you read a little closer moderate tq will work with an auto driving "conservative". wild tq requires aftermarket transmission.maybe "fried" is to strong of a word in this case.so I guess in your description of "fried" it must have to be completely fuked and not drivable.that wasn't the case either.after a clutch and flywheel replacement the noise was still there....

"Yes, I have personal experience with well over 500hp on a stock 48re. What would you like to know? " I live an hour and a half away from Dave Goerend, and have 2 years with a fully built auto....trust me I know what issues they have built up or not.
