Building my own Downpipe

Nothing mind blowing here. Kinda taking a little of what I like from what everyone else is building. I like the Sandel Fab downpipe but it drops right into 2.5". I have seen one other brand one at least that has a tapered section. I thought that seemed like a sweet idea. Also going to use a Vibrant oval resonator. This is likely the same resonator that Turbo Dynamics is using. It is designed to eliminate the rifling noise from v8's. This is a 2.5 straight thru. I will likely build a high flow quiet can for riding trail as well out of a 2.5 high flow muffler.

tapered 2" - 2.5" dp

I've sold a few of the Turbine Tech dp and they are tapered. It's what I have on mine as well. Nicest construction and welds I have seen on various brands. Extremely high quality. I will now be selling the Evo one this fall as it will be available and it makes sense for me.....

Some progress on my Downpipe. I welded the bottom portion today. I am not happy how it looked. I need to back purge it to make it better. I will back purge the rest of it when I finish welding it, this is key.

Also Just ordered a fan for the intercooler as well. Need to get the heat away from the turbo. Thinking I may wrap the entire downpipe and possibly even the header. Won't look as pretty but it is almost nessecary.

We have both a turbo blanket and a header blanket being made. We will have stock within a few weeks.

I have the Evo Cooler fan and I just finished wrapping my header and down pipe and muffler in some header wraps I got from napa. Also wating for Evo to finish the turbo blankets.never knew they were making a header wrap or I would. Have just got that also.

Did you wrap the header with it on the sled or did you have to remove it?

Did it with the header on, Used 1" wrap for header, 2" for downpipe and muffler.

You have inspired me I think I am going to wrap mine now. So much heat from that glowing red header. I am interested to find out of the header wrap holds up.

Some more of my muffler and stuff. I am going to build an aluminum straight pipe for it as well. Should be light and save about 5-6lbs over the muffler for when I really want to be light.

Got the Wastegate portion done. It is tacked up now. IT is a TIGHT fit to the steering post. But it fits. Got it to drop back into the downpipe farther down than I thought I would be able to. Should smooth out the flow nicely.

Just need to finish welding it and smoothing it out with the die grinder.

I got some more parts in the mail today. . .

Now who knows where I can get a 12v signal that is switched on only when the sled is running?

It is not the one from evo. Though it is the same fan they use. I bought my own. I have to get a wiring harness made now though

I just went and figured out the price with the generic relay from spal. It comes to about $150 without shipping and doesn't come with instructions or a harness that is plug and play.

Also installing the fan you need to trim the plastic behind it for clearance.

The EVO fan kit is a good value. They are not making that much money on it.

The power when the key on is in the harness just above the throttle body it's white.

K thanks I will check it out. I am assuming that this is the same wire that causes the headlights to turn on for a short time and then turn off when the key is on and the snowmobile is not running? I can figure it out but it is not my number one concern right now. I am working on getting the downpipe and muffler finished up.

As for the fan I ended up trimming the plastic behind the intercooler. It doesn't support anything and I think that it is likely there for the 800 hood. Then I put spacers under the intercooler brackets and whala! Fits.

I can't wait to have these things done this winter. I found that my sled was inconsistant when it got heat soaked. I would bet an honest 10-20 hp less when heat soaked. Header is getting wrapped and downpipe now as well and custom center hood section and intake as well as side panel vents. Got to get the heat out from under the hood.

Ya cutting the peace out u did and adding the spacer is the same I did with My Evo fan
