Building heat???

Looking for sugestions on what to change in my clutching to get it to make less heat.. The setup I have now works really good as far as RPM's & backshifting but, the clutches still get pretty warm.

My current setup: 809 triple with pipes, 162x16x2.5 track
19/45 gearing w/8 tooth 3.0 drivers
HRP quad cam primary, 170/360 spring, 4 10/54 weights
Team sec, 54/38 helix, 160/260 spring with delirin washers

It is turning 9000 RPM's, Backshifting is good, belt is shifting out within a 1/2 of top of primary climbing. I have checked the alignment a couple times with calipers. (going to make a floating sec kit today) to see if that hepls.

Just looking for ways to improve the heat issue. If you have any thoughts or suggestions please post them up. Thx, Josh

I would do the float first like you want to and try it.
I don't have any experience with a doo triple and the quad cam primary but with that spring (160-260 secondary) and a 38* final , i think this might be a bit much. I'm guessing here but i would try a steeper helix like a 42*or a 44* final or did you try this and have to settle on a 38* final?

If you need the 38* final angle did you try less spring rate like a 140-240, 120-220 or a 100-200 spring rate.

Sorry can't be much more help here but the triple is a different beast then I try to tune with.

I would gear 19 or 20 with a 49 on the bottom if your case will allow. Thats tall gearing for those drivers (IMO). The rest looks good to me.
Watch the heat and i one clutch is hotter than the other after 1 pull on a hill then you have room for improvement of calibration.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to check on the bigger bottom gear, don't think I can get a 49 tooth in there, Might be able to squeeze a 47 in there though.

Briand, I am going to try a 54/40 this weekend & see how that does. I have tried a 42 & a 44, wasn't happy with the performance of them. The triple doesn't seem to like them, not sure why but, the 38* has been the best so far for seat of the pants performance..

Thanks again, Josh

Got it fixed.. Ended up putting a extra brace on the recoil side of the motor & going to a 140/240 sec spring w/ a 54/36 helix. Made 3 back to back runs on a long hill in deep powder & the clutches were cool to the touch. Overreving just a touch but, that is easy to fix. After 3 yrs I finally got it. Wish I had all the money back I spend on belts the last couple years.. :face-icon-small-coo
