Buffalo Pass Access

Hey guys,
First off, Happy TDay!! Eat too much!
Secondly, I've never towed to Buffalo Pass before. I've accessed buffalo by riding they rabbit ears from the MC lot but have never actually trailered to buff. I know there's access from the steamboat side

Sorry. This got cut short. I know there's access from the steamboat side but is there snowmobile access from the Walden/Teal Lake side? I know there's a jeep trail thru there but wasn't sure during the winter if it was rideable. Also, has anyone been up to buff in the last couple days? Thanks!

Been a few years, but CR24 is a paved road that takes you to the east side of the range. Just before you get to CR43, there is a parking lot.

CR24 is south of Walden. Grizzly parking area I believe.

You can't tow directly to buff pass, the nearest parking lot would be grizzley creek ... but I think you have to buy a special use permit to use that lot or something from the USFS.

Cool. That's what I figured. Anyone been over that way since a week ago? Any decent snow to tune a motor? New sled and haven't even had it on top of snow so I don't necessarily needs feet of snow although that's preferable! Haha

there is enough snow to buff pass if you want to ride to tune a sled, I know a few guys that were up there last week and there was enough snow to ride off trail even!

Grizzley Creek parking is on Walden side. The last 4 or 5 miles is not paved. If its snowing it blowes in and if its warm (spring) it gets pertty muddy. It is mantained but if there is a storm road may not be open for a while. (like a day or 2) About 35 miles to Walden still.

I have never had to buy permit at grizzly creek parking lot. Its about 22 miles from walden.
Nice motel to stay there. North Park Inn. Newly remodeled. with hot tub!

How much snow is up at the tower?

No permit necessary to park at Grizzly Creek - We ride there at least a dozen times a season. Bathroom there, but its a cold one!

I think the Antler Inn above the River Rock Cafe is a far better hotel room for the money (some rooms have double headed showers). Just my 2 cents.

How is the drive from Laramie to Waldon, are they good roads? How long does it usually take? We are staying in Laramie and we were planning to just head up to Greenrock for the three days, but I would like to consider going down south for a day, do you guys think it would be worth it? Park at grizzly creek or further south?

Thanks!

Whats your guys's opinion on staying in Walden or Kremmliing. Were coming from south dakota so walden is closer, but if kremmling is worth the drive we might be interested in that. Ive stayed in Walden once before and liked it.

No. You do not have to buy a permit to park there and you don't need a permit to ride Buff Pass either. There is a section on Buff Pass that the USFS has designated as a Wildlife Area and you must have a permit to ride within. It's a pink little flag or something like that and you attach it to the sled or your person.

The USFS tried to make the Grizz Creek parking lot a pay lot but Jackson County put a stop to that. They said if you charge at the lot, we stop plowing the road to the lot. Hence, no pay.

Both towns are small. Walden has better restaurants. Ktown has the Allington (pretty new and very nice) and they do offer a pretty decent sledder discount. Walden has a place that is owned by a sledder so the rates are very fair. It looks to have been recently upgraded and remodeled. I think it's the North Park Inn & Suites. ChevyBoy on the Forums is the owner.
There is a pizza place across the street that makes a killer pizza and way killer wings. The ambiance is that of a dank cave but the food makes it worth it.

Im wondering more about the riding, ive stayed at the north park before and its a pretty nice place

Walden to Grizz Creek parking------20-30 minutes

Kremmling to RE parking--------20-30 minutes

If you park at Grizz it puts you on Buff hours before the mainstream crowds appear.

If you park at RE, you have more terrain to ride as the area is much larger, but not as technical.

Its an easy drive. Probably 2 hours from Laramie. Best part of riding there is much less sled traffic and great snow.

Thanks for the info, we are headed west on 80 now. If the snow is marginal in the snowies we might head down to grizzly parking on Friday. Anyone else going to be there that wants to show us around if we come down?

Thanks
