Broken Primary Clutch Springs ??

Think i found the culprit fellas...

the brass piece the spring goes around... it has sharp edges on it and i could see "something" (the spring) had been rubbing on it.
Ironically look were my spring broke...
so i took a file and filed off the edges.

I've looked at 2 2012 Pro's and both had rub marks exactly like the pictures posted above, rubbing on the inner brass colored piece...Both are under 300 miles and haven't broke yet..

Hopefully filing them down will help, Any wat to post a better pic of the piece smoothed out?

I wonder if the jam nut is a little thicker then previous years and the tolerances are tighter between the jam nut and spring when the spring is compressed.. I sanded my jam nut down before I even put a single mile on the sled and mine is starting to rub the paint off the spring..

@ boston racing.
Right. That's why Indy dan balances clutch's, because polaris has them perfect. That's why some of us also needed to index the spider on our NEW sleds to get the proper belt to sheave clearance. Polaris set the clearance perfect at the factory. That's why many of us have a gram scale in the shop. Polaris has the weights balanced perfect. Sorry, I've been a polaris rider since 1976 and I love my sled but the factory clutch's need a little help!!

So its unreasonable to think that a new $12,000 snowmobile should be built correctly and ready to ride?

Not unreasonable at all. But in the real world how many people on this site bring a sled home from the dealer and only gas and go and don't add any thing extra or do any extra work on the sled?

Well, I'm on the 3rd spring and I have 250 miles on my sled...wtf is wrong with the clutching that could be causing these springs to just literally snap in half???

That's crazy... I have 350 miles on my stock PRO, no problems at all.

Edited: I did have a little coolant on my TPS but nothing else so far!
