Broken drive axle(?) and chaincase

OK, so the verdict is in.

  • Chain case is definitely a goner. The bearing race split and cracked off the housing, I didn't even nee to use snap ring pliers to get the clip out. The chain did some cutting on some of the case ribbing too.

  • Drive axle is a unknown as I've never had it off or seen what it should look like. It appears to have a stud that sheared off the end. Can someone please give me some input on this as well as how it attaches to the housing on the PTO side. All that was left of the PTO side bearing was the outer housing and 2 bearings stuck in the grease of the housing.
I've looked at the Polaris parts site to check it out, but the picture orientation doesn't really show what I need to see.

Any input on what I actually need in the way of parts replacement would be appreciated.
I know I need:

  1. All Ballz bearing kit
  2. Chain case
  3. I believe the chain case cover is OK, there is some scoring at the site glass but its still intact. It lost approx 10% of its thickness.
  4. Speedo housing and pick up assembly
  5. ??
  6. ??

you might want to start by checking on ebay. I think there are a couple chaincases on there.

this is what the end is supposed to look like. Minus the rust.

This is the only 06 chaincase I see on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-P...nowmobileQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_2996wt_939

I would search through the parts counter, maybe somebody has an 06 they are parting out that would have everything you need. If you find a used shaft just make sure it is for an 06, I don't think an 05 shaft will work.

Cross checked part number in Polaris Fiche. it will work

hey that looks like my crank ! I would say you had a bearing fail and that caused the rest of the carnage!pretty simple fix althought probably a bit pricey. I would take your old chaincase of your hands . Ive been wanting to get one of each to test fit my billet covers on. trade ya for a billet cover to put on when you put her back together.

That sounds like a deal that can't be passed up. Hey, if you don't take him up on it I am going to buy that one on ebay for $45 and send it to him...lol
