Broken carbon fiber over structure tube

Put the SLP pipe on and didn't add extremely heat tape to the overstructure tube. The pipe, for some reason sides right on the tube and it melted the tube and broke it in half. Is there a way to replace just the tube instead of the entire overstructure? If so, what did you use to replace the tube, where did you get it, and how did you glue it in? It looks like polarispartshouse.com has the whole structure for 260 which isn't as bad as I thought, but I'd sure like to fix it...

Go online and google carbon fiber tubes for sale.
I've used Rockwest, Carbonfibertubeshop and dragonplate
for 1.25" OD with .062" wall tubes with good success.
Stick to mostly longitudinal fiber construction with maybe a layer of
radial material. Weaves are not as strong and not needed as torsion isn't a big player in those tubes.

Get a wood broomhandle or dowel that fits the tube ID to drill the holes for the upper collector bolts.

Given that, the glass transition temp of the epoxy in the pre-preg still will not handle direct contact or really close proximity to the pipe. That needs to be addressed as your repairing the sled.

Looked up some tubing and it looks like about 150 bucks plus shipping, plus glue, plus time? Maybe I should just order a new structure? Am I looking at the wrong tube?

I replace the Fake CF Polaris Tubes with Thin Walled Titanium Tube

The glue will release at about 300 degrees F.

For what it's worth; I throw the Faux (Fake, only the top cover layer is CF) Carbon Fiber Tubes away and replace them with a thin wall Titanium tube. Never worry about it again. I can rebuild your structure for $200 but you pay the shipping both ways on top of that. PM me if that is of interest to you.

The TI Tube upgrade adds about 1/4 pound over the stock Polaris CF version, but is still about half the weight of the Aluminum version.

You can source the Fake CF tube Polaris uses for about $10 from China on Ebay. FWIW

P.S. I'm interested in buying structures with broken tubes to do my TI tube replacement and have in stock for exchange purposes. If you have an AXYS or PRO-Ride front structure with broken CF tubes PM me what you need for them.

This, or replace with the SKS aluminum overstucture. It is cheaper, stronger, and won't melt.

It will bolt right up?

Not sure which one of us you were directing that question to.
but
Yes, the TI tubes get all the same holes the stock structure has and is a direct bolt on.

Pics of the PRO_Ride version are in my build thread. FWIW

80 bucks cheaper for the sks version... who's the fastest shipping to Wyoming? I don't want to deal with my dealer asking why it melted on the aftermarket pipe...

If you go that route give FreeAgent a PM about it. She can likely cut that that price even further. And her new Dealership is close to the Polaris Parts Warehouse if she does not have one in stock.

I pm'ed Freeagent but haven't heard back. I called Oregon Trail sports and apparently she hasn't worked there in years... oops. Anybody know what dealership she's at now?
