Broken allen wrench in set-screw of primary clutch weight (FROM THE FACTORY)

So I went to change weights in my 2015 HCR for the first time and I noticed that the factory broke an allen wrench off in the set screw that holds one of the primary clutch weights. How in the heck do I get this off? Any suggestions?

Or, should I contact Arctic Cat?

Been there done that. I used a small ball end mill in a drill and drilled out the set screw.
good luck

you put your sled in your truck and you drive it back to the dealer and tell them to fix it. If its brand new, that shouldn't be an issue getting warranty

if you want to try to get it out yourself, you could try heat and really small dental pick

Good old welding!!!

Weld a washer to the allen.. then a Nut to the washer.. and back it out!!

Depending on the hassle and distance in dealing with the dealer, I would give it a pretty solid effort before I drove it back. Odds are pretty high that it was broken while tightening so: with a good center punch, tap the broken allen wrench in a counter clockwise direction. All you have to do is disengage the allen wrench that is slightly twisted in the setscrew and the nub of the allen wrench will just about fall out. A strong magnet might help the fall.

They are pretty weak. Doesn't take much to break them , hence it shoukd take much to get it to fall out. Some tapping and poking and it will prob fall out.

Try some heat and tapping around it, if it doesn't fall out take it to the dealer instead of taking the chance or ruining the weight. Try to weld or drill it and if it screws the weight up it's on your back. I can't imagine trying to weld on the tip of it...way to small!

Take a pointed punch and tap into outer edge of Allen bolt and back out/unscrew. Replace screw...it will be toast anyway. You can also drill and use screw extractor...then replace. Best bet is take to dealer...make them deal with it...If they will.

It's pretty much impossible to drill because allen wrenches are hardened steel. Just put a 1/4 nut over it and weld it to the nut. Then turn it out. I've done it lots. Set screws are standard thread that you can get anywhere.

If replacing with a non-oem set screw, make sure it is the same length and/or weight as the oem set screw.

I've never done the welding trick but am aware of it. Curious how well it works for such a small fastener.

Let us know what you end up doing.

easiest fix.

The easiest way to get it out. Is put an impact wrench on it spin it free then put pressure on bolt and press it out. You will ruin the bolt so you will need a new bolt but this is a 5 minutes fix vs hours of non success a temps to remove set screw.

Good luck.
