Break in a new motor?

Hey guys, I just rebult um 800HO motor and i was wondering if you had any idea's on the best way to break in a new motor i have hurd a lot of different ways I was going to see what you guys have done. Thanks for your idea's

Kerb

i heard add a bit of oil the first couple tanks of fuel, about 6 oz. and ride it and try not to hold it at a constant rpm for too long

Am in the middle of a rebuild on my 06 REV 800 HO motor and plan on running non-synthetic (dino) oil for the first couple a hundred (this is fairly common on motorcycles). This is in addition to runnig a pre-mix of about 150:1 in the tank. After that I'll change out to Amsoil.

Run a little extra oil and ride it like you stole it and then allow some time for it to cool down. Repeat 4 or 5 times throughout the day and you're good. That whole 'don't hold it in one place too long' is BS. Manufacturers just give a lame excuse to do this so you put more miles on it babying it around therefore closer to being out of warranty.

*Did you know that if you followed Buell's directions to break in their new bikes, you would have over 3000 miles booked before it was "broke in"?

Im no mechanic but I would heat cycle it 3 times before taking it out for the first ride. Get it warmed up and shut her down until cooled off completely, repeat 2 more times.

Do what van epps said, this is the key to breaking in a 2 stroke motor. If you cylinders are plated there is not much to break in there. It is a good idea to heat cycle the motor though. Cool off the motor until the cylinders are cold to touch.

Just broke mine in today. Did nothing out of the ordinary, just fired it up, ***** footed it for about 2 miles to make sure it was going to hold together and then it was back to normal.

The "search" function is your freind....there's only 30 threads on this....

DO NOT run you engine up in the garage. You need to load the rings....which can only be done while riding.
