Brake light / Reverse Issue???

Just started acting up on my 16, the brake light indicator gets stuck on, on my dash, and when it does my reverse does NOT work. Part that racks my brain is that, when you hit the brake lever, the actual brake light lights up, and when you release it, it goes off, meanwhile the indicator on the gauge stays lit... Really annoying when you pull up to a sketchy spot with a good drop off expecting to put it in reverse to turn around and you cant...

Sounds like a corrosion issue on the wiring for the brake light switch. The switch can still operate the brake light, but the signal to the ECM is much more sensitive and it thinks the brake is on all the time.

Reverse is disabled anytime the ecm sees the brake applied, so that would be a normal "side effect" of the brake switch issue.

Start by checking the connection on the harness coming from the switch. Eric

Can you tell us why the reverse would be disabled when the brake is applied?

Its programmed into the ECM software that way. The only reason I can think of for them doing that is they dont want you coming down a steep hill, holding the brake for a few seconds while it goes into reverse, and then running the machine in reverse to either slow or stop the sled on a steep grade.

Ive used this method several time to come down some shutes, you just need to get the sled stopped, get it into reverse and then turn the sled down hill. Works awesome to control your speed in very steep/sketchy situations. Eric
