Brake light/gauges won't shut off..with electric start?

Usually I'm pretty good at electrical and comman sense lol..but I'm stumped.

On my 05 rmk 900 (budget build), I installed electric start..which is siiiccckkk if U've never had one lol..

Well when I start the sled, everything works great, then after I shut it off..and key switch, kill switch ect is all off..the brake light and gauges are still on..and no matter what I do I cant shut them off..

Only way to shut them off is to pull the wire off the circuit breaker on the electric start battery..then I hear the relay click and it shuts off..then I put the wire back on and it's all good until it runs and I shut it off again??

Ideas?

There might be a wiring change. Right now I'm installing a electric start set up for a 2005 ski doo 800. And part of the install required me to re wire how the accessories relay worked. Before the light and gauges on this sled won't fire up until it hit 1000 or something rpm. To save all the power for the ecu and spark. Now since there is ample power the ecu and lights get full power before start up, but instead of the relay controlling power from the stator to thethe light its rewired to control power from the battery to everything. On the ski doo so I'm not sure if the 900 would be the same.

I think the first place I would start would be trying a new relay for the electric start relay, sounds like it is sticking until you completely remove the power.

Replaced the relay with 2 other relays on the electric start, Didn't change anything. Then switched out the same style relay on the harness next to the tps and it worked..thought everything was good..messed with the holz suspension setup and started it again, then back to how it was...lights stayed on from there on just like before..wtf!!

That makes perfect sense. But no guidence on it..if I can't figure out switching the harness around, I'm going to run a toggle off the circuit breaker and kill the power from the battery so the lights will stay off. Ugh!

:yo: It's been a spell since my last post, still doing 900 creations there Guido! So it's behaving essentially like there is power to lights diagnostic after you shut her down?...you've checked the relays,... chassis relay, charge relay (lower left footwell) & charge relay (by headlight cluster)...If those check out, then start tracing the grounds. Can you confirm your ignition sw. is 'electric start optional' switch? I would leave tether out of trouble-shooting for now. Otherwise, go to dealer and have them print out tech. sheet on elect. start install. & compare notes. Keep that flipper thing on the handle bars moving freely!

i just went with the "simplest" thing i can think of until one day it just clicks to me and i figure it out, i put a small toggle switch under the key assembly, it has a small VERY bright LED light...so when i kill the sled, the light will be on, and will let me know the battery is still sending power out...once i shut off the toggle, it will shut off the battery pwr to the relay an kill the circuit right away...then i will just leave the toggle on for the next go round..

its a simple process, just 1 more thing to add to shutting the sled off...but its a super clean install and the toggle looks factory, so im fine with it

Well, that's one way of solving it....could also shut it off with 12 gauge shotgun, no...??!!

I wish..but no

On the IQ chassis, u can unplug the key switch and the sled will start normal. Just has to be shut off with a tether.

Key switch has more than one circuit in it. I thought you were talking about the lights staying on and not the sled starting. Either way it sounds like you found a solution that works.:face-icon-small-coo

Yes sir, make it work! I do have a request for a future Guidoexpress build...you may not like it but, I think it would make a good sled just to have around: Take a blown up 9, ditch the motor, ditch the electronics, ditch the plumbing...say hello to a 550 fan! Yeah, resurrect an old gen or edge goat & swap the motor/electrical to the iq chassis, dependable, light weight, get some more miles out of a good chassis. Hey, it's good garage time right? I think I hear booing allready!

Believe it or not I'm STILL having this issue. Replaced the main wiring harness cause it was kinda "shady" and switched to a normal good with projector headlight for the wifey. (Cause it gets dark here in Alaska during the day lol)

Anyways. Fired it up today with the "rigged" toggle out of the pic and new headlight, everything remains ON when key is off.

I don't have a spare gauge, good harness to swap and confirm since everything else above has been swapped out.

And my lights don't work. But need to check that out more.

Ideas??
