Bozeman/MSU

Not really a snowmobile topic, just need some advice!
From a small Iowa town (pop. 2500) and considering transferring to Montana State in the spring of 2009. I have a few questions that I hope all who reads can help aid in my college career decision!

1) Good/bad experiences of MSU or Bozeman? Haven't seen much of Bozeman other than flying in and leaving right away for West Yellowstone.
2) Is there any condo's, apartments, etc that rent on a monthly bases to nonresidents?
3) Any work that's available with flexible hrs?
4) Would be in Montana +/- (Jan. 10-May 5, 2009).
5) Any sport leagues offered like rugby or slow/fast pitch softball?

I currently attend college full time majoring in Phys Ed while farming with my dad and working construction with my uncle.
Any questions feel free to email jeffyboy600@hotmail.com or 563-320-4860
Thanks in advance!

I have a couple of friends who are going to MSU. It's really one of the best eng. schools in the west. I have heard nothing but good things from them about it. I've got to start checking it out this summer as well!

I graduated from MSU in computer science. I currently work in the Bozeman area. The only thing I would say about the area is that it is a little spending on the housing side of things. As with any college town it probably wouldn't take much to find a part time job. I worked through college in the rec center on campus.. I ran around with a lot of people that were "non-residents" and they didn't seem to have any issue... (I think that is true for all college towns).

Hope this helps a little!

I know a few guys that went there, 2 are engineers and 1 became a geologist. They all loved the school. Sounds like they have great programs.
Like jamkak said the housing market is getting ridiculous with all the Californians moving in with their outta state money.
And most of those outta staters feel they need to "save" MT by kicking us out of the back country.

My best friend goes to school there, he is a Construction Engineering major. He loves it! The skiing is awsome, the snowmobiling is awsome, and the overall atmosphere is great! When I went out there to visit him a couple times, I realized I probably should have gone there too, haha. Its in a good location too, lots to do in my opinion. He works at the Yellowstone Club, which is past Big Sky, but he just takes the bus that goes there on a regular basis, so he doesnt pay for gas and gets payed pretty well. But in general like others said, its a college town so there arent a shortage of towns. I would say go for it, you wont be dissapointed if you like fly fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, etc. I was in kind of the same situation, I wanted to transfer, then listened to my parents who told me to stay cause it would get better, and then before you know it its too late to transfer without doing an extra semester or two. So in my opinion, I dont see how you couldnt like it, but thats just me talking, haha. Good Luck man!

What everyone else said is dead on. Not much in the way of rugby though.

ya there is a rugby team. one of the guys i know plays on it. i would have to say go to bozo. it was my second choice for school but ill be in missoula for just a year so im not going there. i know alot of people that go there and they all love it.

I am in my third year at the school of architecture there...i grew up and went to school in the valley as well so naturally i have grown to love it here...the riding is alright too.

I am heading out to Bozeman and going to MSU this fall for business administration and Army ROTC. Most importantly I am bringing my sled so I am going to have to make some friends quick because no one likes riding alone. Another flat land WI guy tearing up your fresh powder, sorry the state is to addicting to stay away.

My best friend from college flunked out of U of M in Missoula...they took him in Bozeman and gave him a double masters in Eng and Architecture. He finally found a school where he could pass the courses.

LOL

Boze is a nice place. Beautiful scenery. Almost Montana at it's best.
Crummy football.

You meant to say, he would not partake inteh dope smoking, and birkenstock etiquette classes at UM? what a rebel :)

and yes, you have to be a TRUE fan to support the Cats, as we suck at pretty much every sport...but atleast our graduates make VERY good money, and essentially get to pick their job...

Having grown up in Bozeman, and went to MSU for a while, it is a VERY good school, LOADS of stuff to do outdoors...

Yes on softball, and yes on rugby...if you enjoy the outdoors, there are few places on earth that offer the diversity of Bozeman...and yes it is a very growing economy so there are lots of jobs...if you know what I hammer is, you pass the test for starting contstruction jobs at roughly $15/hour...and if you can make the hammer hit the nail...you can make around $25+

Any input on Missoula? Riding, Job market? (didn't think it was worth a new thread) I live in ID now and thinking on going to Missoula for diesel tech, (since they dont offer it Bozeman).

You'd be WAY better off doing diesel tech in Missoula than Havre if you like to snowmobile. LOL

Missoula is good if you stay away from the hippie housing. .
