boy gets suspended for talking to his father, in iraq

The only point I was trying to make was Where do you draw the line? I know it was an over exageration and as usual on this forum some people were not able to figure it out.

I think you made an asinine comment and I called you on it.The war is not fought on a time clock....I lived it with a son fighting in Afghanistan I get it.

I agree phones should not be in school but the parents had talked to the administration.

I agree with extenuating circumstances....someone overseas can not just 'set up a time' to call home. It doesnt work that way. A father here went above and beyond to make sure that he can talk to his son while he was overseas.... how can you justify the fact that he was wrong...you have no idea how difficult it is. whether cells are allowed in school or not this is the only means of communication for these families....how dare any of you to say that this is wrong. If my son was old enough while i was over there I would have done the same thing. To say that this is unjustified is outrageous!

not really!!! the school i go to you cannot even have them in between breaks! they say that you can use them to "plan" things! well i thiink that is BS because there is alot of kids whose mother or father are in the military.

A line was drawn, the way I see it. The father made arrangements, and it was understood that he could call. That does not give the entire school the same privilege. Having a parent fighting in a war is extremely hard on a child. The consequences of not letting the child talk to that parent are more harmful than him missing a few minutes of class. If the school was concerned about disruption, they could have spoke up at the beginning. Instead the child is being punished for something the asst. vp said was ok.

I guess if you feel you called me on something that was an exageration to make a point so be it. I hope you feel real good for it. But. Like I said some people on this forum are just not smart enough to get that it was an over exageration. I to have had relatives and freinds in Iraq and Afganistan. I have a cousin in the Marines that has spent 6 tours in Afganistan in the last seven years. So don't even think I don't get it My exact point for all who do not understand is Where do you draw the line? In this day and age everyone thinks that things have to be fair for all no matter the cicumstance. Cell phones do not belong in school or even the work place unless used for business purpose. This B.S. argument of needing it in case someone needs to get ahold of you for an emergency is crap also. How the heck did we ever live without that little peice of crap 25 years ago is beyond me.

I don't know what his father does in the military.

Whether he runs the commissary on a LST or plays pacman with spooky.

When I was in they did not allow me to talk (because of what I was doing)
I sent letters which were mailed weekly or monthly and any electronic communication was in writing through official correspondence meaning I wrote it, was read by the military and sent in a general mailbox.
When my mother died (I was overseas on tour) I was removed from the "environment" and sent to a pastor who read me a one line email. Mother died . message may upset enlisted personnel.

The enemy is listening people. Yep you can read this message anywhere in the world with internet access. They , the enemy try to figure out and time the military movement so they, the enemy can time the best time to attack. They even want to blow up the computer or find the family so they can email or send threats in some way. Anything to upset the USA. That is the likey reason why the military father was not able to plan his exact time to call.

With this said I would think the school administration would support the Assist prin decision to let this child get a call from Dad.

Too bad an attorney doesn't litigate this out.

For all you people out there who believe the military should not be honored,
you should not take freedom so lightly.
