BOV ????

I have a vector motor with a mid mount turbo. I am wondering what BOV I should get. Last year I had a Turbo Smart one. And had it mounted on the intercooler after the pitot tube. I was getting bad flame out, assuming this was from the location of the BOV. BOV should be before the pitot I am guessing. So that will be changed but I was also getting alot compressor surge. So pretty much what BOV do I need. I have watched videos on youtube where guys are climbing shoots and there BOVs are flawless, being in and out of the throttle.

you need it BEFORE the pitot tube.. what happens if you dont is what happened to me last year, the carbs are getting float bowl pressure(via pitot tube) and then the air is vented before you get to the carbs, thus a huge rich stumble upon BOV actuation. so that should deal with that..

as far as actual BOV, get one with an adjustable nut/knob on it, I had mine orignally set really sensetive, and worked great for that, just SUCKED as far as the rich situation because of its location.

I run two of them. One one i/c and one about as close to the turbo as you can get it. The one on the i/c is a synapse synchronic and the other is a turbosmart. I didn't have any flameout on mine with just the synapse synchronic last year. It is a different style than most and seems to work really well. I just added the other one because I had it laying around and figured it couldn't hurt.

Synapse

I like the way the synapse works. I am waiting for someone to say jump and I will probally buy one. Right now I have a Used Hks sitting here, a vortex style one, the turbo smart I used last year, and a bosch plastic one. I think I can machine the Hks one to work much like the synapse. I think that it really needs boost on both sides of the diapraghm, like the synapse has one both sides of the internal piston. The Vortec style one I have I can easily add the boost to the opposite side of the diprahm.

I have owned 4 yamaha carburated turboed 4 strokes. I would recommend the turbosmart bov 52 mm worked best out of all I tried. The higher the boost the increase on flameout. I ran 22 pounds and w ts 52mm light spring and would'nt flameout under throttlechop under load. You really have to learn how to ride the throttle, not so much the sled. My 2 cents!
