BOV Freeze Up??

Anybody ever have their BOV freeze up, or hear of it happening?

I installed a mesh hood on my Nytro this year and when riding in deep, over the hood POW it's acting up. Runs great at WOT and steady throttle, but on and off the throttle it acts like its flooding out...and has died a few times. When it dies I can smell fuel.

On the road ride out it suddenly cleared up and started making the normal BOV (jet engine) sound and ran fine down to the truck.

I'm thinking the mesh hood is letting fine snow dust in and is affecting the BOV.

Anybody experience this? This is a Stage II Super Charger at 12psi.

is the intake in the stock location? i had the same problem with my apex in deep pow. put a snorkel on it and solved the problem. if the hood and side vents are plugged with snow all the air is gone from under the hood with a supercharger in a quick hurry and the sled will run pig fat until you get some fresh air to it like running down the trail...

I can't see the snow affecting the BOV that way, it's pretty warm there. it sounds like your altitude box isn't set up right.

Brent, My Apex did, and my Nytro does, both change their air/fuel parameters when in deep and light Powder. If you watch the o2 gauge it magically gets fat. With my MCX kit, there was nothing I could do except build the best snorkel I could to limit it. With my Impulse turbo on the Nytro, it definitely will eat more and keep plowing through it. But I lose some power because of the moisture puttin the fire out and the fact the fuel is rich because it cant get enough clean air. No clear fix that I can come up with. But it is only a bothersome thing in my case. No big deal as long as I blip the throttle lightly a few times when I stop. :)

And my BOV is really quiet so in deep POW I really dont hear it much. Although if you take one apart and look at it, it can definitely freeze.

My issue seems to be the opposite...blipping of the throttle makes it act up...runs great at WOT. And with the S/C, the air filter is mounted directly to the blower, behind the intercooler (I know, not the best place, but that is where it has to be with the S/C setup)...no snow EVER gets on the intake.

On the road down, things suddenly cleared up, and started sounding and running normally.

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas.
