Bountiful Avy Pictures

Very sad and scary. Please be careful everyone! It's a fun sport, but also very dangerous.

Were you riding with the group Dan?

Our helicopter was flying in the area doing some heli skiing. Mainly red with a white stripe Astar. He was on his way back to the airport here in Bountiful to refuel and was saying on the radio there had been a snowmobile accident, and got on the ground and was on the phone with 911 reporting it. Didn't get any info there but came home after work and logged on to snowest and saw this....

Wow! Seeing that ski sticking out in the 3rd picture really hit a spot there! :face-icon-small-sad:brokenheart:

Everyone stay safe out there this weekend! I don't want to hear about any of you (or anyone PERIOD) being caught in the next one!!

No, it wasn't our group. I don't really know the people involved, but I see them riding up in Bountiful a lot. They always seemed like nice guys.

KSL just reported the man is in critical condition tonight. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Great job Dan on being there and lending a hand. Every bit of help is greatly needed in a situation like that.

The thought of leaving my wife and boys husbandless and fatherless breaks my heart and makes my decisions of where I am riding rather easy. I agree, that we need to do a better job finding a way to get the word out more, even if it is just simply starting a discussion at the trail head with other riders.

I saw your post and actually had written a nasty responce and GP asked if I knew for sure it was your group and I thought i had better read it again. Then you responded. Glad to hear it wasn't you. How dumb can somebody be to be climbing or dropping the steeps right now???????????????????????????

Don't know the story. Was anybody hurt?

I don't know the story either, but they may not have been climbing. Right now Avy's are being triggered from adjacent slopes or from the bottom of them. Good reason to just stay away.

I think they were coming down the slide path, not going up. I agree the family shouldn't have to be put through anything else, but people should be aware of what happened and not repeat the same mistakes.

i know that family members of avy victims search this site after avy accidents, so i'd just give my suggestion to take be careful with comments as they could hurt those already hurting. i hope they're alright.

having said that, i hope everyone keeps it safe this weekend and off the hills.

he's a friend of a friend of mine (sorry but it's true). we were headed up there tomorrow. pretty sure they were coming down when it washed them out. this has happened alot this year with these conditions. i was up at monte today and started a few small slides in places i've never seen slide before and all were coming down hill. lot's of snow finally but it's bottomless with no base and super sugary. please please be careful and pick your areas carefully.

hope all is well with him and his family

Here's another slide one canyon over. I was surprised how much stuff hasn't slid yet, it could be a recipe for disaster going forward. It is an unusual snowpack this season and hope that everyone will exercise extreme caution.

sad day

First, all involved are in our prayers.
2nd, it never stops hurting, the wounds reopen easily, eh!
3rd, we feel a lot of attitudes have changed as our sleds have evolved and so have our abilities and desires. we are a lot smarter out there then we used to be. let's try to not be hurt.
4th, accidents do still happen but we can reduce them with planning.
5th, Utah Avy Forecast has made the danger crystal clear this week. Let's not ignore their efforts. They risk it so we can be safer. Bless them!
6th, Nic knows it. Family looks here for support. so lets support our fallen friends at this time.
7th, Avy safety. preach it! live it, don't be afraid to discuss it with friends and strangers.
8th, the snow is very bad right now. Let's not have anyone else hurt this weekend. zero is the only good number of fatalities. ZERO.

my heart breaks again every time this happens. I miss Animal. The Utah Mafia and beyond will always miss him. It's because of him that a lot of us will not be in harms way again. don't let this happen to your riding partners. Let's be our brother's keepers as best we can. we all love to ride. keep that love alive.

God Bless this injured man and all who know him. you are in our prayers and thoughts.

Peace out, Rock

ps Dan, thanks for the pics. I bet the chpooer pilots can tell you of the crazy number of slides they have seen from the air, the size of them and the many slopes ready to go big with little triggers. be safe.

Just talked to Stace's brother, he is breathing on his own but has many internal injuries and is not responding to pain. He was without air for a long time. Please keep praying for Stace and his family and friends.

RIDE SMART!!

AMEN RS...It is so dicey up there right now. Please stay off the big stuff guys. I hated to hear last night, I hate those kind of calls. I sure hope Stace pulls through.
