Boozin in Wyoming?

Have a group going to Togwotee lodge in a week or so and one of our group (mid/late 30's) wants to bring his 18 year old cousin. He's a good kid and nice to have around (one heck of a shoveler :becky:). Poked around the internet a little for WY drinking laws but I'm lazy so thought asking here would be quicker. My question is if we want to sit in the bar and have a couple at the end of the day when we're done riding can he be in there? And, I guess, if we ordered a beer could we give it to him? Thanks

Depends on how old he looks. I personally have gotten served in the Wyoming bars since 15 and at 19 now I have a full head of Grey hair so no one's asks for id

He's got a bit of a baby face. Either way I'd like to know the rules. Don't wanna add to the stupid, drunk wisconsin guys "myth".

21 is the drinking age in WY. Cops have been knowing to have undercover officers in bars checking for under age drinking during the busy season. The establishment that we stay at has been fined for this.

This was 7-8 yrs ago that I heard about it so keep that in mind.

I think WI is the only state that has the "you can drink underage with your family" law. Not too many even know about that unless they're from WI.
As far as him hanging out in the bar with the rest of you, that is fine in WY and most other states (but not in WA!:face-icon-small-fro It's %^(^$ing annoying when we stop for dinner somewhere here and they have bar seating available but we can't sit in there with the kids.)
Whether he'll get served at Togwotee is uncertain. Legally........no. But if there's one state that a person could get served underage, WY is probably it.
Worked in Casper for a winter, a while ago, 1998? One of my laborers, a local, was not 21 and he had no problem getting served in any bar in town when we went out. But that was 15 years ago!
Damn I'm getting old........

Yes to the first question and of course (like anywhere your choice) to the second question but it's not legal.

South Dakota you can still drink, but you have to give the drink to the parent first and they have to give it to their child(I work as a server during the summer).

In WY you can drink with your parents but I believe you have to be in your own home. You have to be 21 to be in a bar but I know from experience that bartenders dont always check Id's (if everyone looks and acts old enough he will probably have a better chance of not getting ID'ed). You could always get creative with some back door seek ins or ID pass backs.

21 to get INTO the bar?? Hell when I stayed at elkview(which is in the big horns) the normal restaurant closed and they told us to go into the bar. I was 17 and no one gave a single care. I thought you could be in the bar, just not consuming alcohol? So worst comes to worst have dad/older person by a couple beers and pass one over.

The law says 21 to be in a bar but like you said a lot of people don't really care. Also if a bartender serves to a minor they can get hit with a $750 dollar fine but its probably less likely to be enforced in a smaller town.

One thing that ive found works pretty good is walk in with a beer in hand. Kinda gives a general idea that he is 21. Keep in mind it does NOT always work but most of the time it does.

We used to make the run to Jackson Hole to buy Everclear 190. Mad Dog and Everclear will turn any youngster into a man!!
