Boosted Engine Reliability

Here's the deal, I'm a flatlander looking into boost, most likely a SC. However I'm not interested in screwing up my engine reliability, I'm wondering what the failure rate of the boosted engines are. Can a guy set up the charger and just ride or is it a never ending tuning game. Oh yea, the machine is a Nytro XTX. Thanks for the help guys.

Good thread I would also like to hear how many miles most peeps have on there tnytros and apex's w/o any internal engine issues (especially on stock rods and pistons). My cylinder guy (machine shop) bet me just the other day that my tnytro won't stay together for the whole season w/o breaking a rod or some other internal trouble. He thinks that 250 plus horse is just to much for the stock motor. He is not really up on this particular motor but has alot of experience with r1 motors racing street bikes. I took the bet and hope to be kicking back drinking my two cases of beer this spring and polishing my tnytro. When replying please post boost levels and if you have rods and pistons.:beer;

Congrats to the beer!!!
I don't have a Nytro, but from what i understand they are as reliable as Apex, and i run 300+ hp with headchim and Premium fuel, and done so for more then 1 season and 3000km / 1900miles per season.
And there was a thread here on Snowest a couple of months ago, it might have been a "poll", and Climbmax (Randy Swenson) and more had made MANY more miles then i on their boosted sleds.

Enjoy the beer!!!
If you follow the guidelines the kits are designed in, they last a long time.
How about 15,000+ boosted miles on an RX-1. Totally stock engine, pump gas, 10PSI.

enjoy the beer

I have 3000 miles, 2500 boosted, stock motor 14lbs-sometimes I turn it up to 16. I do run strait race gas though. only caution is running good enuf fuel for the boost you are running. As far as stock rods and pistons go I know a few people running boost in the mid 20s on stock components with a shim. julio

5000 miles all boosted. 2000 with a SC the rest with a turbo. hated the SC tuning issues, belt issues, ect. would not reccomend!!! LOVE the turbo as reliable as stock but way more fun. no tuning just turn key and go. run 14lbs of boost on straight pump gas with head shim, stock pistons and rods.

head over to TotallyYamaha....there are LOTS of flatlanders over there with boosted sleds...there is a section specifically for boosted sleds, and 90+% are flatlanders...

i have an 08 apex almost 1300 k 18 pounds boost for 1000 of them race fuel rode yesterday and it is as strong as when we built it. as for reliable i changed oil, skies, and hood over the summer

Ha ha ha !! WELL, since we're on the new hood subject... you packin a couple spares this year SP ??? :P

new year new coulors trying the decal look hope it holds the small parts of the hood on if not there is always aluminum and rivits:D 3 hoods last year :o

I bought my turbo with ~750 miles which was run at 17# and straight 100LL.

I've since put ~450 miles on at 12# and straight 91 pump.

Total mileage ~1200.

And this would make an ARM RIPPER of a trail sled, by 25-30 mph your spoolin and grabbing a hand full will make sure your paying attention!

And thats 12# at ~10k ft & head shim. :D Just think about that at 1k ft...even if you have to dial the boost down, it'll rip!

my nytro is a handfull on the trail! it can get scary because things happen real fast!!.....stupid fast!
