boosted apex fuel pump questions

Just bought an 06 apex with a boondocker turbo kit (2560) The sled has an external fuel pump on it and the stock fuel pump was removed from the gas tank. Is this an older practice? Has anyone dealt with this?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

A external pump is generally used for applications over 13-14 lbs. of boost. I know MCX uses this idea. I am not too familiar with boondocker. Hope it helps!
