Boondocker M8 PG intercooler

I am about to pull the trigger on an 2011 m8 and put on a boondocker PG turbo. Is there ANY downside (lag, throttle response, etc....) to putting an intercooler on?

Thanks!

Some say yes, some say no. I run the inter-cooler since it came on the sled, and am happy with the response (RG kit).

The biggest downside I have with the Inter Cooler, is it makes reed inspection/change out a bit more of a hassle IMO.

I can't believe I didn't put a cold air intake on a couple years ago. Huge difference. Woke the sled up.

Don't put the intercooler on it, don't swap back to an 09' head, then run "pg" but mix %25 race gas and have a badass setup.

I'd ditch my IC right now if it wouldn't cost me $600 to buy the 'regular' charge tube and air box.

On straight 91 running a 3° timing key I run just under 11 lbs before maxxing out the injectors on a BD PG turbo. 8-10k elevation

I tried the timing retard box a few times .... you get a lot better snap out of it without it.

I'm only running 8-8.5 psi right now, but my bottom end to mid range is so much better with that head and the BD turbo pipe even with the IC right now that I don't even care if I have to mix race gas at that level of boost ....

Those mods combined with that 911 clutch cover has made this thing take off from a stop as well as a stocker for the most part. If I didn't have the IC it probably would take off as well as a stocker right now *shrug*

The newest BD kits with the intercooler are the way to go.
Very good flow design. No more air box attached to your carbs. Its now a tubular design that really works well.
With the stock head and timing key You'll have excellent throttle response and stock reliability.

I agree 100%. My 11 with the new kit and intercooler works perfect. Could not be happier with a turbo set up. Excellent throttle response and very consistant on back to back pulls. Just like a stocker on roids!

My PG kit on my '08 took about an hour to dial in. The race gas kit with IC on my '10 took about 12. The IC and race kit is completley worth it once it is tuned, but if your not willing to splurge for the extra octane I would just go straight PG no IC. They are still tons of fun and quicker to set up.

Ken, do you suggest keeping he stock 2011 head? Do you think the intercooler on a pg causes a little lag?

Getting bummed, I already ordered the inter cooler for the pg, I want to run around 7-8 boost. Dont care about top speed, I pretty much ride powder and trees.

It's not even a comparison in the mid-high range with the cold air intake. The sled keeps pulling harder and harder and isn't sucking in the hot air under the hood. Yeah the intercooler is suppose to help this and it does to a point, but not to the point of a cold air intake. If you have the chance try to ride someone's sled who has a cold air intake you will be amazed. 4 guys in our group have or will soon be taking off the interheater. Just my 2 cents from first hand experience.

You wont be disappointed. My buddy has the newest intercooler (that deletes the airbox) with the stock head and timing key. His bottom end is crisp and clean. Better bottom then mine. My 2010 m8 doesn't have the I/C and I am running the 09 head.

Dogmeat, that's my plan. To put 75% 91 and 25% 112, should be 96.25 octane. ALL my riding is above 9000ft. I hope that should do it for 8 pounds.
