Bogging probleM/??????

My buddies 2003 RMK 800 runs fine in the lower elavations but once we get up around 8-9000 feet it starts to bog on the bottom end. Its really sluggish and aint running like it should. I think it is the jetting. If so i was wonderin if anyone had any input on this problem. Thanks:beer;

As you go up in elevation there is less air so you now have too much fuel and your sled will "bog down" usually jetting is set up for a 3000ft elevation change. Not sure what elevation you are starting at but it may already be jetted rich......and then you climb up you get richer and "bog" more. Twin pipes seems to pretty sensitive to jetting are they twins? A single pipe will be less sensitive to elevation changes. I ride from a parking lot that starts at 5500 ft and ride up to around 9000ft. I tend to jet my sleds to run around 6-9000ft. When I'm down low I am on the "lean" side then when I ride up to 9000ft I am jetted just right. What I do is never run the sled wide open down low and I tend to "blip" the throttle alot when going down the trail until I get up to around 7500ft. Temperature also has the same effect. The colder the air the more there is, Thus you need more fuel.

We start in about the same elevation. And he has twin pipes. So do we need to put some smaller jets in it or what would you prefer. Thanks for your help!!!!!

First thing is to make sure the carbs are good and clean. Don't want to be messing with jetting if this is just a problem of dirty carbs. Then I would look on SLP s website for jetting recomendations. They will give you a base jetting for twin pipes determined by what temperature and elevation you are riding. This is just a base line, SLP tends to be a little on the rich (safe) side. Then you can check your plugs and piston wash and either jet up or down from there. What jetts are in there now? If you don't know cleaning the carbs will give you a chance to look. I would say for if you are going to ride at 8-9000ft from 10-30 degrees throw in 360's with needle clip in #1 and check the plugs. Keep in mind you will be lean riding down low so blip the throttle allot until you get up to riding elevation. If you are going to be ridding above a temp of 30 degrees you may want to drop them down to 340 and #1. Just keep an eye on the plugs and piston wash. Remeber temperature change is just as important as elevation changes.

I think we found the problem. First thing was one of the motor mounts was lose and the whole motor would torq to one side. Also one of the power valves was in upside down. and third the jets were 400 in one side and 390 in other side. He is getting new jets for it and we will see how it runs. Thanks guys!!!
