Boat opinions

I am looking for a Glastron SX175 with the 4.3l volvo. Just wondering if anyone on here has one, and what they think of it.

Thanks

How new are you looking for?

Glastron makes good boats for the money.
Not as nice as the Crownlines and such, but certainly not as expensive either.
Considerably better boat than Bayliner and other bottom teir boats.
Decent resale due to their solid reputation.
Also consider a Larson which is a sister company to Glastron in similar cost range.

Don't let Genmar's bankruptcy sway you away from any of their boat lines.

Why the Volvo outdrive?
They are very good, smooth operating outdrives, I'm just asking if a Mercruiser is out of the question.
If so, why?
Quite often, the Mercruiser replacement parts are less expensive than VP.

Either way, the 4.3 is a GM engine that has been widely used in the marine industry for many years.
It will have good power in a smaller boat like that.

PM me if you have any questions. (the ONLY dumb question is the one not asked)

I'm looking for something similar. Does anyone know of anything reasonably priced in the MN, ND, SD area? It's the wrong time of the year to buy a boat, but I figure someone must feel the money crunch somewhere...

Thanks for the great info. The only reason for the Volvo is because I found a 2004 near me with that motor in it, everything else was the 3.0l.

Whether it's Volvo Penta or Mercruiser doesn't matter. If it's a 4.3 it's a GM engine.

There are plenty of 3.0's (also a GM) out there in boats that size.

We do have a customer with a '93 Larson 170 All American with a 4.3 Mercruiser that he wants to sell. The boat is in good shape, the floor is solid but the upholstry could stand to be redone.

PM me if you are interested or let me know more specifically what you are looking for.
