Blown Up 4 Strokes

I'm 65 years old and I guess I'll have to take that as a compliment you think my snowbiking is harder on the bike than Ryan Dungee!

Uh oh... I had my head done by Racers ER, but I got the titanium valves and berrylium copper seats. So far I love it, but I've probably only been out about 20 hours on it. Hopefully I don't see similar problems.

Racers er is a great company and I plan on getting my replacement head from them. Just make sure to pull your head off if your bike gets gutless or starts making a new noise lol. I checked my valves and did an oil change then it blew up couple miles down the trail, it's a good thing it wasnt in the back country.

Con rod bearing would be no different than in a 2T I wouldn't think. Could also be a lot of gas in the oil causing premature bearing failure, which is primarily a 4T problem.
amen. i do oil changes a lot, but until a guy deals with engine temps/oil in fuel issues, your running half your days with diluted watery gasy oil. thats gonna wreck stuff especially considering your operating @ WOT with bad oil!

Even the premix makes a better cleaner than a lot of the garage cleaners , works great on the clear tanks :face-icon-small-hap

Had 09 honda crank to con rod bearing let go , now on a cr 500

you also must realize that anyone can hold a 450 wfo for minutes in the snow. guys that do that kind of use in the dirt have mechanics that change out motors everyweekend! It is no secret that modern four strokes were developed to produce revenue through more complex and expensive maintenance schedules! these are not the xr's of olden times that will run for 20 years on an annual oil change. I have seen beginner riders wear out good quality 450 s in a season just by not being good wit there maintenance. Even with a two stroke I am thinking piston in the fall, and replate and piston at the end of every winter!

go til she blows

as mentioned, snow gives the snobike rider the opportunity to blow an engine at most any time.

without a rubber belt and weights to curb poor throttle / rpm discretion , all bike motors will let go if you run against the governor.

three four years on a good new sno bike motor, no big deal. but , yes, I have listened to the three four week riders pounding hills somehow imagining that 14000 rpm is an acceptable riding practice. same type of riding practice on a 4 stroke sled with a standard transmission and riding time could be measured in minutes.

So if you don't understand 4 stroke engines, blown up 2 stroke are far less expensive to rebuild and much easier to understand when you blow them.
