Black on Black

For those of you looking for ideas for color schemes. This is my 2011 Standard RMK. It came with a red hood and black side panels. I switched out the red hood for a black one and removed the red decals from the side panels. I also cut the windshield down about 3" with tin snips and cleaned it up with a bench grinder. I used small automotive vacuum hose for trim and sliced a slit down one side with a razor blade to make it fit over the edge of the windshield. Super glue to hold the trim on. So if you want this looks you could get some 2011 Standard side panels. I'll post a before and after.

I'm still considering removing the 800 decal or maybe both side panel decals and just leaving the white Polaris decal. Thoughts??

I got the hood from Babbit's for $107.00 shipped to my door. I did not order the $70 foam kit. I'm just going to use heat reflective tape in the spots where the foam was.

For sure. I was planning on doing something with the screens. Just have decided on white or silver yet. The decals have a silver outline on the lettering so I thought silver might look kinda cool and not stand out so much as white.

I would agree, paint the inside of the windshield black or change it out to a chrome windshield.

I think I would lean towards white on the screens especially if you ever plan on adding some venting. That way you could do black and white vents.

The more I look at it, I think I would strip her down some more and take off the decals on the side but maybe leave the Polaris decal.

Here's the reason, I like simple,

You may want to peel off the red 155 sticker on the back of the tunnel, doesnt really go with your black and white theme imo. Sled looks great man, nice work.

thanks for the ideas guys. Yeah I'm a simple kinda guy too. All my sleds usually get stripped down. I like to ride 'em naked! I still haven't decided on painting the windshield yet. I'm at the point where I like how it looks so a little nervous to go further and can't go back, BUT I think the windshield is gonna get gloss black. White on the vents and off with the "RMK" and "800" decals.

On a side note, I texted a pic of the sled to my wife with the new hood and her exact reply was "that looks sexy now". HA HA HA. before she told me to get my Dragon back because my new sled was ugly ha ha ha... Funny because she doesn't even ride, which explains why she thought the Dragon was a "better" sled.

With the smoked windshield will the gloss black look good painted on the inside or will it look wierd? I understand that you want to paint the inside so the paint is protected but I just don't want it to look stupid. Luckily the wive's dad paints RC cars for living so atleast I have a professional plastic painter to make it look nice.

wow ur sled looks awesome!
I have been going back and forth on ordering a wrap kit for mine
i too have all white panels and a black hood and it looks sick
but also have the blue on the side and the POLARIS stickers are blue as well

i either wanna do something drastic, like an 80's theme with: neon pink, blue and yellow OR right opposite w just black and white
doing the latter of the two would be much cheaper and I could spend that dough on a skid plate, hand guards, a travel cover and vents...which i obviously need

but part of me is partial to the damn wrap kit......... :frusty:

i think my ADD is telling me i would be sick of the wrap by next season....and to just go simple

Clean the inside of the windshield well and paint it. Just like they do with color matched bug deflectors on trucks. Harder to scratch the paint off. I think Krylon has a plastic specific spray paint too. Put a Snostuff "Peak" windshield on the wife's IQ6 but not sure I like. I think I will spray the inside of the stock windshield white and try that myself. BTW, white vents would look wicked.

Go naked now, you can always add a wrap later. That's the route I'm thinking about for next year. Plus that way, people think you got another new sled!!!
