big wheel kits? how big?

I just finished putting my mtn tamer together and was in the process of putting it all back in. I also bought a mountain machines freedom axel 9" conversion kit and i'm having problems getting it back in. It seems the track is too tight with the axel adjusters all the way foreward. Has anyone else tried to put in 9 inch wheels? Is 8" maybe the max? Iwas told I should be fine going from 7 to 9. But if the track is too tight it seems like it will definately defeat the purpose. Also i was thinking of maybe porting the track will this maybe help it stretch? Thanks! It's on an 07 apex se 162 stock maverick.

9'' and 8''wheels

Yes had same problem. 162 with mountian tamer setup with stock yamaha rails. Tried to put 9'' carbon fibers in with mountian machine freedom axle kit. Wouldn't work track to tight. Ordered 8'' carbon fiber wheels they went in. But sliders at back of rail was 3/4'' off track. Rode like this for 2 days didn't like it. Went back to stock wheels. Figured there was to much weight on wheels. Hope this helps.

i went with the 8 inch MMP wheels and 2 wheel axle with Ice age rails.

Is there anybody who still make the rubber coated big billet wheels.

Another question on the same topic of wheels. Are two wheels enough. ??

Meaning, is there enough there to displace the energy of a tight track and 300+hp over two wheels or should we go with three or maybe four wheels. What about bearing failure. ??

300 hp i would not run 2 wheels. i run 12 lbs which is 240hp at sea level and 200 hp (?) at my riding elevation. This will be my first season on 2 wheels but if i was cranking big boost i would never consider it.

Well I just talked to alan today, and the mtn tamer does take up some more track because is has more suspension travel, so i'm going to returm the 9 inch kit and get the 8 inch and should be ok. I also put a smaller wheel on top of the back suspension arm which freed up some, I actually got it on with the 9 but the track is really tight.

Ya it is very pricey. IMO the biggest problem is with the bearings. If you go to the larger 25 mm bearing, I would think that should help.
