I first saw the An-225 debut at Abbotsford airshow in 1989. The Russians came to the show with the An-225 and a couple Mig 29's + helicopters. First time any of these aircraft were seen in North America. Definitely the An-225 is large both physically and with a higher gross takeoff wt than the C-5 Galaxy. However in true Russian form it was very crude inside compared to the C-5. And I think there is only one An-225 built and flying in the world today making it truely rare to see it.

Thanks for posting....(didn't know it was coming to Edmonton).

Have seen it twice...both times it came to Klamath Falls, OR to pick up some Sky Cranes to take back to Europe for firefighting duty (before Medford upgraded thier runway to handle it). Got to watch a retarded woman (not really, but she was told multiple times to stay back) get blown off a canal when she stood DIRECTLY BEHIND IT as it rolled onto the runway and took all 6 engines to takeoff power. She was about 50 yards behind it...hilarious. :)

I was on the 11th tee at Bridger Creek in Bozeman last summer when the High Important Dikweed (pres.) was in town. A C-5 that must have been carrying his motorcade flew over just after takeoff and that thing blotted out the sun. It's hard to imagine anything bigger.

supposable costs approx $100,000 for it just to take off, not exactly a cheap plane to hire

That’s a chunk of change for sure. I think they call the C-5 F.R.E.D. F#$@ing Ridiculous Economic Disaster, because of it's high fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

Saw something that said it required 16 hrs of maintenance for every hour of flight time. :face-icon-small-con

Holy big plane Batman!!!

Got to see a C-5 take off at Glacier International Airport and use its rockets to lift off...That was SWEET!!!
